PBR Spotlight Game: Benedictine vs Trinity

Cleveland ??? Division II Benedictine hosted Division IV Trinity at Nobby???s Ballpark on the campus of Case Western Reserve on Wednesday night. The Bengals would hold off the Trojans 4-2 to pick up their first victory on the young season.

2015 RHP and Heidelberg commit Collin Pecoraro (pictured right) got the start for Benedictine and filled up the strike zone from the start. With his fastball and sharp curveball, Pecoraro punched out two Trinity batters in the first inning.

Pecoraro would help his own cause and get the Bengals on the board first with an RBI single, scoring freshman Levi Pokersnik in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomore Marlon Moore added a sacrifice fly to increase the lead to 2-0.

The Benedictine offense would plate two more runners in the bottom of the third inning. It was again Pokersnik who would set the table for the Bengals. Drawing a walk, the speedy freshman would steal second base and later advance to third on a wild pitch. He would later come home to score on a single by fellow freshman Jordan Barnett.

Trinity answered back in the top of the fourth inning. After a hit batter, 2017 LHP Nick Farrell (pictured right) hit his second single on the day putting Trojan runners on first and second. 2018 Danny Strenk knocked home both runners with a double to left field. The left-handed outfielder had two hits on the day.

The two run cushion proved to be all that the Bengal right-hander would need on the evening. Pecoraro went on to strike out ten more batters in his final five innings of work.

With the win the Bengals improve to 1-0 and return to the field on April 7th as they host Shaw.

With the loss the Trojans fall to 0-1 and return to action on April 6th and 7th as they square off against conference foe St. Thomas Aquinas.
