Jake Lincoln, RHP, Class of 2014, Jackson Lumen

PBR: Why did you choose Kellog?

Lincoln: I think they are a great fit for me. I really like coach Laskovy, he has built a great program there and I wanted to be a part of it. I believe I can play at the D1 level and Kellogg gets a lot of guys to the next level.  

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Lincoln: My top choice was MSU, I'm hoping the Kellogg route will get me there. My other top schools were Adrian, Kalamazoo, Hope, and Alma.

PBR: Kellog is known for sending many of their players to 4 year colleges.  How much of a role did that play in your decision to go to Kellog?

Lincoln: That played a very big role in my choice. That's my ultimate goal and they have had great success in making that happen. They play at a high level and I wanted to be a big contributor in that environment in the next 2 years.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you?

Lincoln: They were able to see me at a couple of camps and through video.

PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable moment.

Lincoln: I grew up in Kalamazoo so my summer ball was with Kalamazoo teams. I played for the Kalamazoo Maroons and the West Michigan Broncos. With the Bronco's we won the Mickey Mantle State Championship, that was a great weekend.  My best weekend personally was in a Fort Wayne Tournament when I went something like 14 for 17 with 6 doubles, 3 triples and HR at IPFW. Overall, traveling down to Tennessee and being with my teammates for the week was a great time.

PBR:  What team do you play for in the summer?

Lincoln: I'm going to play for a new team this summer. They are out of Kalamazoo, the Michigan Wolverines. I'm excited because its most of my friends from growing up and spending the last summer together will be great.  

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?

Lincoln: I just hoped that I received an honest look from schools. It's tough for them to see many players in actual games given their schedule. I tried to get out in front of them with emails and videos and attend camps when I could. Even though it didn't end up like I has hoped yet, I'm excited to have a home at Kellog where I can contribute and continue to improve.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Jackson Lumen?

Lincoln: We don't track detailed stats during the season, but I'm hitting over .400, I think I can keep or raise that the rest of the year. Last year I hit 6 HR's, I'd like to get back to that this year.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Lincoln: We played team Ohio last summer at OSU. Top to bottom they were a great team. I was lucky enough to come away with a victory against them.
