Rising Stock: A Pair of Rockford Rams

By Mike Penn
Director of Scouting

Rockford High School has become a hotbed of baseball talent over the past few years.  They won the state title in 2011 and continue to produce college baseball players under the direction of Head Coach Ian Hearn.  In the 2014 class, the Rams already have a Kory Young committed to Michigan State but another pair of players, Matt DiLeo and Reid Kelley, are making names for themselves.

Kelley, a right-handed pitcher, attended the Midwest Futures Games in Champaign, IL where he performed well. This fall and winter he has shown a mid to upper 80's fastball and a late biting slider.  An area for improvement is his change-up but he does show some signs of it progressing. Kelley has been talking to several schools already but expect him to add a few more to the list in the following months.

DiLeo has made perhaps the biggest jump in the 2014 class this fall.  DiLeo has been working hard and seeing the fruits of his labor pay off. DiLeo has improved in a number of areas most notably in his pop times and the 60. DiLeo now is sub 2.0 on his throws and starting to tease the 7.0 mark in the 60 yard dash.  Expect DiLeo to garner some serious attention heading into the 2013 season.
