The 2024 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Foster Falcons return a veteran and talented team in 2024 after finishing as 5A Area Finalists a year ago. Coach Mick Tosch expects to have a strong pitching staff in 2024 and it’s not hard to see why.

Starting things off on the mound is Arizona State signee LHP/OF Chase Batten (2024). Batten, who was a Third Team All-State and First Team All-District selection in 2023, is currently ranked No. 78 in the state and was also a participant at the 2021 PBR Future Games. Batten features an upper 80’s fastball paired with a low 70’s curve. Next on the pitching side, RHP/CIF Cooper Schwank (2024; Northeast Texas CC) is back for the Falcons after earning First Team All-District honors in 2023. Schwank is currently ranked No. 227 in the state and we got a look at Schwank in November, where he showed a three-pitch mix including a mid-80’s fastball. Batten and Schwank look to be a tough one-two punch for the Falcons all spring. Another senior arm to know for the Falcons is RHP/UTL Drew Lueders (uncommitted).

The Falcons are not without impressive junior arms either. INF/RHP Aiden Poirier (2025; uncommitted) is an impressive two-way player for the falcons that has run his fastball up to 84 mph in front of our staff in the past, while also showcasing a strong arm in the infield (86 mph). Poirier is currently ranked No. 152 in the state for his class. INF/RHP Paxton Dagley is another two-way standout for the Falcons’ junior class, who looks to be a factor on varsity in 2024. Rounding out the junior arms for Foster will be INF/RHP Oscar Trevino (uncommitted).

On the offensive side of the ball, the Falcons will have a senior trio to lead the way, with all three earning All-District awards in 2023. INF Julio Cuotto (uncommitted - 2nd Team), UTL Jacob Szafran (uncommitted - 1st Team), and INF Ridge Aventurado (uncommitted - Honorable Mention) should help solidify the defense and the lineup for the Falcons in 2024.

With their exciting and talented pitching staff, and veteran-led team, the Foster Falcons are a team to watch come 5A playoff time.
