2024 Season Preview - AB Watch List

Stevyn Andrachick SS / Vauxhall, AB / 2024

Over the course of 2023, Andrachick showed us on a consistent basis why he is one of the top hitters in Canada’s 2024 class. The Vauxhall Academy product won’t blow you away with his 5-foot-10, 175-pound frame, but his bat-to-ball skills and plate discipline are in a league of their own. During the Vauxhall/Bucks Scout Day last September, Andrachick had one of the best rounds of BP we’d seen all year. 15 of his 16 batted balls were 91+ mph, 9 of his 16 were 95+ mph, and he reached a max exit velocity of 101.6 mph. He consistently elevated balls back up the middle, with several leaving the yard. Andrachick was just as impressive in-game at high profile events. He was one of the top hitters at both Best of the West in May and the Canadian Futures Showcase. The Sacramento State commit will look to do much of the same when the 2024 season kicks off.

Nathan Flewelling C / OF / St. Joseph, AB / 2024

The Canadian JNT member and Gonzaga commit is one of the top 2024 catchers in the country on both sides of the ball. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound athletic LHH moves well all over the field, blocking and receiving well, to go along with a 7.05 60 last February that will likely now be sub-7. Behind the dish he has a strong arm and quick transfer, POPing the best time of 2023 at Prep Baseball - Alberta showcases, 1.79, and reaching an 80 mph catcher velocity. At the dish Flewelling more than holds his own. He likes to work to his pull side with authority, reaching a max exit velocity of 99.2 mph and sitting consistently in the mid-90s, while also utilizing a swing path that allows him to elevate. The St. Joseph's Academy product also stood out at the Canadian Futures Showcase, winning the event's Home Run Derby.

William Labonte RHP / Okotoks Dawgs Academy, AB / 2025

The 2025 RHP is one of the more talented arms on a loaded Okotoks Dawgs roster. The 2023 Future Gamer impresses with his repertoire and his ability to find the zone with each offering. He brings athleticism to the mound with fluid actions and a long arm. The fastball sits in the upper-80s and can touch 90 mph at times with plenty of arm side run (20.8 inches of HM). He utilizes a high spin slider (2650+ rpm) that generates lots of swing & miss with its sweeper profile, and a cutter that he uses well with his fastball, inducing weak contact. A curveball and changeup are also in his repertoire which he continues to refine. The Arizona State commit is one to follow as he looks to dominate on the mound in 2024.

Alexandre Laurence C / 2B / Vauxhall, AB / 2025

Don’t let Laurence’s 5-foot-6 frame fool you, he has one of the best hit tools in the 2025 class on the West Coast. No matter where he plays, he hits. Laurence stood out at Best of the West with his plate coverage and discipline, working several full-count walks and doing damage when balls were left over the plate. He also had an impressive showing at the West Coast Games in Vegas last August, driving a 1st inning HR deep over the LF wall against Nevada. He has bat speed and present strength, allowing him to reach the upper 90s in exit velocity. Laurence is a catcher by trade, with a 1.91 POP time and 77 mph catcher velocity, but he is a very effective infielder, playing mostly 2nd and 3rd for Vauxhall throughout 2023. As one of the top uncommitted 2025s in the country, Laurence is looking to take the next step in 2024.

Dominik Morgan C / 3B / Archbishop Jordan, AB / 2024

At 6-foot-0, 210-pounds, Morgan is one of the more physical uncommitted players in Alberta’s 2024 class. With the current strength he has, he does a good job of utilizing it all over the field. Behind the dish, Morgan has one of the stronger arms on the West Coast, reaching a       catcher velocity of 85 mph, using that to POP 1.84. Although his future home on the defensive side of the ball is likely behind the dish with his ability to block and control the running game, he moves well in the outfield and has a strong arm to contribute in a corner spot. The plate is where his physicality is most noticeable. With a level swing path, he drives balls on a line back up the middle with consistency and authority, reaching a max exit velocity of 97.4 mph at an event last spring. Over the offseason, Morgan hit 106 mph off a tee which shows the strength based swing he possesses. With the offseason gains the AHP product has made, he will be looking to make a big impact on both sides of the ball when the season gets underway.
