Recruiting Roundup: Who's Heading Where?

Alex Kermendy, INF, Waukesha West, 2015

Alex Kermendy10/11/14 - 5-foot-8, 170-pound two-way player, stocky build with strength. Right-handed hitter, slight open stance, smooth loading action, short stride. Strong balance through contact, repeats swing well, showed the ability to impact the baseball, line drive type hitter, gap to gap. Bat speed present, level path, barrel aware. Defensively plays with an athletic arm action on the infield, short high ¾ slot, strong arm, 82 mph across the diamond. On the mound delivery has a slower tempo, slight pause at top of balance point. Arm plays from a high ¾ slot. Fastball showed slight action, 80-81 mph, touched 82 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, gradual action, 60-62 mph. Changeup sat 62-64 mph.

Austin Emanuel, C, Mukwonago, 2016
Western Illinois
Austin EmanuelRecently committed to Western Illinois. 5-foot-10, 175-pound catcher, young build, body still developing. Defensively receives well, good catch and throw prospect, hands are soft, showed arm strength out of the crouch (79 mph). Arm played from a shorter over the top slot, typical catcher’s arm path, accurate arm, played through target well with carry. Recorded pop times at 1.93-2.07. Also took it from third base, showed the ability to be more than serviceable at third base when not behind the plate, 85 mph arm across the diamond with carry, hands played well. 7.68 runner in the 60. Offensively hits from the right side, balanced stance, smooth loading action with short stride and proper balance throughout, overall good hitters setup. Quiet setup and attacks the baseball, line drive approach, uses the middle of the field, good bat path stays through hitting zone. Advanced overall approach with well above average bat speed for age. 88 mph exit velocity from the tee.

Dane Helnore, 3B, Burlington, 2015
UW-Stout                                                                                                                                                  Dane Helnore6/26/13 - Strong frame, 5-foot-8, 182-pound third-baseman who showed some offensive abilities. Line-drive hitter, hits from a balanced setup with athletic rhythm using a toe-tap trigger. Gets some leverage from his lower half and maintains balance throughout the swing.  Helnore displayed strong hands flashing bat speed, recording a 77 mph exit velocity off the tee. Defensively, he fielded with fluid actions throwing 70 mph across the infield.
