Commitment Corner - '20 INF Kelly Corl
February 4, 2020
Seattle, WA - Another installment of Commitment Corner is here. This time we take a look at one of the most complete hitters in the 2020 class, Washington commit Kelly Corl (O'Dea)
Scouting notes
Strong, compact build at 5-foot-10, 180 pounds. Proportional frame between his upper & lower half. Hits from a slightly open, wide-set stance. Hands are loose/relaxed with some bat wiggle for rhythm before stretching back as he loads. The hand movement is short & easy, allowing Corl to maintain control of his barrel. Stays inside of the ball & has flashed the ability to hit for 'doubles-type' power from line-to-line. Possesses a natural feel for the strike zone with strong plate discipline. Defensively, he moves well laterally and has the versatility to mix between 2B, SS, 3B. Remains to be seen where he finds his permanent home at the next level. Short levers allow him to keep his arm action short/compact. Ball has plenty of carry out of hand with consistent accuracy. Sure-handed type of defender in-game who understands how quickly he needs to get rid of the ball. Overall, the Washington commit has a balanced skill set with one of the most advanced 'hit' tools in the state.
PBR: Why did you choose Washington?
KC: I chose Washington because it felt like home and will enhance my ability to play at the next level. I also loved the coaching staff and felt very welcomed.
PBR: When did you make your decision?
KC: I made my decision in late August this year (2019).
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer/fall and what has that experience been like?
KC: I play for En Fuego Baseball in the summer and in the fall. The experience with Coach Steve Avila and this club has been like no other. I have gotten the chance to play all over the place, including the Connie Mack World Series in New Mexico.
PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
KC: My most memorable baseball moment to this day was when I played in Cooperstown, NY when I was 11. The whole atmosphere was all about baseball and I fell in love with it.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in Washington?
KC: The toughest pitcher I’ve faced in Washington would have to be Reilly McAdams (Ingraham). He does a great job of playing with fire and mixing his fastball in with his off-speed effectively.
PBR: Any pre-game superstitions?
KC: I say a prayer every game before I touch the field. I also get dressed the same way every time.
PBR: Favorite MLB player and why?
KC: My favorite MLB player currently is Alex Bregman. He’s confident and is always locked in. I model my game after him and admire how quick he can bounce back.
PBR: What would be your top walk-out song? (The edited version)
KC: My top walk-up song would have to be Intro by Meek Mill.
