Freshman Focus: Outfielders

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

As the 2017 season makes the turn past the halfway point we want to review some freshman that have and should continue to have an impact on conference championship races throughout the state. Below is our report on three hitters from the 2020 class.

Houston King, OF, Cabot High School
King is a 5-foot-11 160-pound outfielder with an athletic frame and build. Offensively he starts with an athletic stance, he uses a simple load stride combination. He attacks the baseball with a line drive swing with fast bat speed. He maintains balance through contact. He has shown an advanced feel for the barrel with consistent load contact. Defensively he plays through the baseball with fluid footwork, a normal exchange and throws from a H ¾ arm slot with a loose arm. He throws the baseball 81 mph from the outfield. He runs a 6.91 in the 60. Overall King is an advanced athlete with a bevy of tools, he is intriguing to watch moving forward.

King is having a solid spring hitting .368 in 57 at bats hitting 5 doubles and a triple.

Luke Pectol, OF, Robinson High School
Pectol is a 6-foot-1 170-pound outfielder with a large frame and thin build. Defensively he works through the baseball with fluid footwork, and a normal exchange. He throws from a H ¾ arm slot with a loose quick arm. He throws the baseball 80 mph from the outfield. Offensively he uses a tall stance with a hand load and simple stride. He attacks the baseball with fast bat speed, producing exit velocities up to 88 mph. He ran a 7.16 in the 60. Overall an athlete that looks to have a high ceiling as he grows into his large frame. He already has tools and an advanced feel to hit.

Pectol is hitting .492 with 8 doubles, 1 triple, and a home run in 65 at bats.

Colten Sagely, INF/OF, Greenwood High School
Sagely is a 5-foot-10 175-pound outfielder with a large frame and an athletic build. Offensively he attacks the baseball with fast bat speed and some strength. He produces exit velocities up to 86 mph with a slight uphill swing, and some rotation. He has shown to have a feel for barrel with loud contact. Defensively he plays through the baseball with normal footwork, a normal exchange and an accurate arm. He throws the baseball 77 mph. He ran a 7.09 in the 60.

This spring Sagely is hitting .340 with 50 at bats, in these at bats he has hit 5 doubles and a homerun.
