Vince Vannelle, RHP/SS, Mason HS, Class of 2016

PBR: Why did you choose Florida Southwestern?

Vannelle: Wanted to play in the south, really liked the coaches and facilities. Academically, I will have the support I need to succeed and prepare to transfer. I also wanted to develop into a pitcher, not a thrower.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Vannelle: Xavier, Florida Tech, Richmond, Eastern Michigan, and Travvacca

PBR: Where did the coaches first see you?  How did your relationship develop with them?

Vannelle: FSW saw me play at Perfect Game with my summer team then to a showball showcase in Fort Meyers in August. They invited me on a visit the following week and stayed in touch with me since then. I really liked the coaches and their attitude towards developing players.

PBR: Was distance from home a factor in your decision?

Vannelle: Not really. My family has always supported me and they are excited to come to Florida and see me play.

PBR: You are a two-way prospect, what role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Vannelle: FSW said they want me to pitch and also use me as a utility player in the infield.

PBR: You have participated in numerous PBR events.  How has PBR helped you with the recruiting process?

Vannelle: The exposure was awesome! The pro-styled workout prepared me for future camps.

PBR:  Your high school team has high expectations going into the spring.  Do you feel any added pressure now that it is your senior season?

Vannelle: Yes absolutely, I have been very fortunate to have played on a real solid teams for the last 3 years with great players and even better coaches. Wearing the kelly green adds pressure to Carry on the strong tradition of excellence at Mason

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Vannelle: My dad. He has been my summer coach up till high school. Constantly pushing me for my best. Been there for everything. All the travel, camps, visits and extremely blessed and thankful for the support he has given me. Without his support, I wouldn't be in this situation.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season?

Vannelle: Batting Average: .330, ERA:1.5 with a .880 fielding percentage. Primarily a Shortstop.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Vannelle: My former teammate, Tyler Krabbe. I was never able to get him out in practice. Never swung at pitchers pitches. Was just a tough out.
