Inside the Recruitment: '15 RHP Austin Cline commits to Dayton

Austin Cline, RHP, Ben Logan HS, Class of 2015

PBR: Why did you choose Dayton?

Cline: I loved the other schools I visited, but after I met the coaches and visited campus I knew UD was right for me. The campus environment was awesome, and the coaches philosophies were how it should be. Being assured a quality education and the opportunity to play baseball at this level made my decision easier.  I’m excited to be a Flyer.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Cline: I was also considering Concord in West Virginia and Heidelberg. Coach Wright and Coach Fitz made my decision tough from their great characters and programs, but UD was the right fit for me.

PBR: Where did the Dayton coaches first see you?

Cline: I met and was able to work with Coach Talarico and Coach Romick at the new Dayton Classics facility.

PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable moment.

Cline: This next summer I will be playing for the Dayton Classics, but the past two summers I played for the Ohio Surge Central. Breaking out as a pitcher the past summer was very memorable for me as I faced many great teams and still maintained a 1.46 era with 103 strikeouts, but my most memorable moments were with my team when we competed in 6 different championships two years ago, and the 9 inning game we had in our final game last year.

PBR:  What team do you play for in the summer?

Cline: I will be playing for the Dayton Classics this next summer.

PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 program?

Cline: I’ve always dreamed of playing at this level, and it’s what I’ve always been working for. It’s a great feeling to know everything paid off.

PBR: What were your stats last spring season?

Cline: I had a 2.70 era with 47 strikeouts.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Cline: I’ve faced numerous great hitters in the summer, but a few standout hitters I’ve faced from my school’s conference were Seth Gray who will be playing for Wright State and Cole Brewer from Northwestern.

Big thanks to my dad for introducing me to the game and coaching me for the longest time, and also thanks to Coach Gregg Beemer, Coach Fawcett, Randy Rose, Kevin and my teammates that have been there for me.
