We would like to thank all who participated in PBR Ontario’s Ottawa Open ID Showcase. This was a great opportunity for 2015, '16, '17, and '18 prospects to be put on college radars. Many players impressed during their individual workouts at the showcase. Below we have the complete statistical results from the event as well as the top performers across various different categories.

Ontario Open ID: Class of 2015 Evaluations

TOP PITCHER:
Bennett Smith, RHP, Bell High School
TOP POSITION PLAYER:
Ryan Burnside, C/RHP, Cairine Wilson Secondary

Bennett Smith, RHP, Bell High School
Scouting Report: Big athletic frame at 6-foot-4, 185-pounds. Projectable pitchers body with room for added gains. Long arms and big hands. Out the windup, worked from a ¾ arm slot with average effort. Arm worked in the back, lands slightly across body at finish with tendency to open up early to first base side. Room to add length to stride should help with direction. Fastball was 81-83 with top velocity of the day on the mound. Showed he could work downhill at times, threw fastball for strikes. Curveball was more of a slider, worked at 75-77 mph. Threw a couple that had some late bite. Changeup had good down and sinking action to it. Needs to take a little off as it was mostly high 70s, did throw best changeup of the day at 73 mph. If he can repeat that will be a strong pitch for Smith. Ability to incorporate length and size should see Smith add velocity and movement. Excellent student, SAT score of 2020.

Cole Casford, C/3B, Bayridge Secondary
Scouting Report: 6-foot, 160-pound average frame catcher with room to add size and strength. Ran a time of 4.47 from home to first and 5.25 in the 40-yard dash. At the plate, Casford hit from a narrow, crouched position. Hands load straight back with a long stride. Bat path is slightly uphill and had an exit velocity of 71 mph. Defensively, best pop time was 2.28. Velocity from behind the dish was 73 mph. Arm had some strength, needs to get shorter with the action and release. Can gain more ground on his throws to second which will help his carry and time.

Eshan Silva, 2B/MIF, Hillcrest High School
Scouting Report: 5-foot-6, 150-pounds with small frame and room to add size. Ran a 4.74 from home to first and a 5.50 40-yard dash. At the plate, Silva starts slightly open with his knees bent and hands back and up. Medium leg kick to stride, hands work to ball and gets some lift into swing. Exit velocity was 74 mph. Defensively, moved well through the ball, hands were average. Used a clean and smooth release across the diamond at 64 mph. Worked from a ¾ arm slot that was clean and proper.

Jonathan Milks, 1B/OF, Trinity High School
Scouting Report: 6-foot-2, 205-pound 2015 grad with big frame and current strength. Ran a 4.78 from home to first while his 40-yard dash time was 5.19. Offensively, starts from a balanced stance with small stride to load. Hands get work back, bat path stays level through to contact with more emphasis on pulling the ball. Lower half works, tends to spin off, showed strength with an exit velocity of 83 mph. Defensively the arm works. Was clocked at 79 mph from the outfield.

Matthew Wagner, SS, Bishop Smith Catholic High
Scouting Report: A 5-foot-11, 155-pound athletic frame that projects to get stronger. Ran home to first in a time of 4.56 and the 40-yard dash at 5.28. Offensively, starts from a wide, balanced stance with hands up and some bat waggle. Small stride with rock back to load. Hands tend to drop and at times can get long, did show ability to get hands through and contact out front. Can get more out of lower half. Exit velocity was 79 mph. Defensively, loose actions with hands and legs. Came and got the ball well, stayed through his throws that were accurate and online. Quick release and transfer. Worked from a clean ¾ arm slot with some arm speed. Was 80 mph across the diamond.

Raphael Payant, OF/2B, Woodroffe High School
Scouting Report: 6-foot-2, 165-pound 2015 grad with a lean frame that can add strength. Ran a 4.63 from home to first and a 5.35 in the 40-yard dash. At the plate, Payant starts upright with  slight knee bend and feet are evenly spread. Uses small toe tap to load while doing a good job of staying balanced. Hands had small trigger, showed he can stay inside the ball, hit to all fields during round of batting practice. Exit velocity was 80 mph, was better when he kept his hands above the ball. Defensively, approached ball well. Transfer and release was quick, can get more legs involved into throw. Was clocked at 71 mph from the outfield.

Ryan Burnside, C/RHP, Cairine Wilson Secondary
Scouting Report: 6-foot-1, 210 pound dual athlete with some current size and strength. On the mound, uses lower half well. Repeats delivery with average effort and stays online throughout. Arm works from ¾ slot with average arm speed. Fastball was 77-79 mph, ball had arm side run when he stayed on top of ball and finished. Curveball sat between 66-69 mph with 11/5 shape, was able to keep in zone. Changeup was 71-74 mph, slowed arm action down at times which caused ball to stay up. Offensively, ran a 4.53 from home to first and a 5.28 during the 40-yard dash. At the plate, starts open with lower half and in upright position. Regular leg kick with good load in lower half, lands online while hands have small trigger back. Potential for some power with a little lift to swing. More in lower half, can create more torque. Gets bat head out front and should he could extend. Exit velocity off the tee was 86 mph. Defensively, Burnside showed good hands behind the dish. Footwork can improve with more ground gained on throws but shows he has ability to do so. Transfer was clean to a ¾ arm slot. Pop time was 2.06 while he was clocked at 75 mph. Throws were online with carry around the bag. Showed some arm strength behind the plate. Interesting to see him in game action this summer.

Zachary Lindgren, OF, St.Francis Xavier
Scouting Report: 6-foot, 200-pound stocky build with strength to his frame. Ran a 4.78 from home to first and a 5.06 in the 40-yard dash. At the plate, had one of the better rounds of batting practice that day. Drilled first pitch he saw with a quick, powerful swing that had some loft. Starts with front side open, hands back with small stride and load. Showed some quick twitch actions while generating good speed and power through the hitting zone. Stayed balanced and online while getting good extension. Exit velocity was 83 mph, nice left-handed bat that will play at the next level. Defensively, moved well to the ball. Throws were online for the most part with clean one hops. Was clocked at 72 mph from the outfield. The bat and power potential will be the big draw for Lindgren.
