Prep Baseball Louisiana Game of the Week (Week 7): South Beauregard vs. Lutcher

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Week 6 of the 2024 high school baseball season has come and gone, as teams across the state are in the back-half of district play.  Last week, our Game of the Week featured two north Louisiana teams in Sterlington and St. Frederick.  The Warriors came out on top of the Panthers, by a score of 6-4, in what turned out to be a fabulous back-and-forth game with prospects all over the diamond.  After reviewing this week's schedules of teams from across the state, we've decided on our Week 7 Game of the Week, which will feature South Beauregard vs. Lutcher, on Monday April 1, 2024.  The Golden Knights have been arguably the top Non-Select D-III team with an impressive 18-3 overall recored.  The Bulldogs are also arguably the top Non-Select D-II team with a 17-5 overall record.  Monday evening's matchup figures to be a pitcher's duel with South Beauregard sending senior RHP Jace Duhon, a Louisiana-Monroe recruit to the mound, to face off against Lutcher junior RHP Marshall Louque, who is a Louisiana State University recruit.  We're excited to head to Hammond, LA, as both of these teams are favorites to end up at the state tournament next month.  Be sure to follow us, across all of our social media platforms, for our Week 7 Game of the Week between the South Beauregard Golden Knights and the Lutcher Bulldogs!

GAME PREVIEW

South Beauregard and Lutcher will meet up for our Week 7 Game of the Week, on Monday April 1, 2024, at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA.  Both of these teams are currently ranked #1 in their respective divisions with the Golden Knights in Non-Select D-III and Lutcher in Non-Select D-II.  South Beauregard currently owns an 18-3 overall record and look like a "shoe-in" for next month's state tournament.  There is hardly a weakness on this Golden Knights team, as they can beat you in a variety of ways.  On the mound, they are led by senior RHP Jace Duhon, who will be the likely starter on Monday night.  The University of Louisiana-Monroe recruit typically works his FB in the mid-80's and pairs it with a bigger "11-5" shaped low-70's CB.  Junior LHP Clayton Folks has been equally as impressive as Duhon this season as well.  The uncommitted southpaw is 7-0 this spring and just last week tossed 5 shutout innings against Jennings, giving up only 1 hit with 7 strikeouts.  Offensively, this team is very experienced with a ton of veteran guys who were starters on last year's semifinal group.  Senior Bryce Deason, a Hill College recruit, swung the bat extremely well last week, as he went 7-12 (.583) with 2 2B, 1 3B, and 7 RBI's in the Golden Knights three wins last week.  Lutcher currently owns a 17-5 record and they look like they are going to be the #1 seed in the Non-Select D-II playoffs for a second straight year.  The Bulldogs are led by one of the best two-way players in the entire state in junior Marshall Louque.  The LSU recruit and former Future Gamer runs his FB in to the low-90's and can also swing the bat from the right side.  Seniors Brock Louque (Nunez CC), Caleb Hastings (LSU-Eunice), and Luke Babin (Nicholls State) all play key roles in the Bulldogs offense as well.  With Duhon and Louque matching up on Monday evening, we fully expect runs to be at a premium in what looks to be a low-scoring affair.  Timely hitting and clean defense will likely be two key factors in who comes out on top in this mega-matchup Monday in Hammond, LA.
