Chattanooga Open: Pitcher Reports

PBR Tennessee Staff

CHATTANOOGA, TN - The Chattanooga Open was held on Wednesday July 12th at Chattanooga State CC in Chattanooga, TN. This event was an open event that consisted of players from the 2024-2027 classes from Volunteer state. Players went through an extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60-yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to get numbers and metrics on TrackMan. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.

Wrapping up our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at the scouting reports from the event, finishing up with all pitchers from the event.

pitcher reports

Thomas Butler, Boyd Buchanon (TN), 2025
Positional Profile: SS/RHP
Body: 5-11, 170-pounds. Average body with proportional lower/upper half. Has plenty of room to fill out into frame.
Delivery: Easy repeatable mechanics with a smooth intial leg lift. Stays strong on his backside before decending. Finishes well with stack shoulders but can lose plane on his driving phase. Maintaines a balanced follow through while pulling off to first base at times.
Arm Action: RH. Compact arm action that stays connected upon hand seperation. Creates good hop on his fastball ranging in the 15-18 inches of induced vertical break. Some arm side run.
FB: T79, 77-79 mph. FB plays best when he kills arm side run for more induced vertical break. Fastball has truer 4-seam spin action that will be able to get on top of barrels and could look to work up in the zone. T2255, 2097 average rpm.
CB: 72-74 mph. Curveball carries tight spin at a decently high spin rate average. Lacks some current downward bite and could be looked at more of a popping get me over strike. Must work on staying tighter through release with both arm and hand. Has current feel for throwing strikes with this pitch. T2436, 2346 average rpm.
CH: 71-73 mph. Overall the changeup carries decent shape that has some horizontal movement with a change in velocity from his fastball. Could look to kill more spin to give the pitch greater movement capabilities. T1988, 1921 average rpm.
ATH: 7.64 runner in the 60. 1.76 and 4.17 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Cash Carteng, Cookeville (TN), 2024
Positional Profile: RHP
Body: 6-0, 175-pounds. Thin with room for added size and length.
Delivery: Gets good extension, slower delivery but speeds up as he gets to foot strike. Gets good scap load into foot strike
Arm Action: RH. Arm is quick with a longer arm action. Higher slot. Smooth whippiness action that works efficiently and together.
FB: T78, 75-77 mph. FB has arm side run, was all around the zone. Showed good command to both sides of the plate. Being able to move the ball around will make this pitch effective. T2114, 2094 average rpm.
CB: 63-67 mph. Cb has good action to it, needs to find a consistent release with it. Looks to sweep across the zone. Being in the zone will be the key for this pitch being effective T2007, 1838 average rpm.
CH: CH has good fade to it. Could get swings out of the zone on it. Tunnels with his FB well
SPLT: 72-73 mph.

Graham King, Baylor School (TN), 2026
Positional Profile: OF/RHP
Body: 6-0, 185-pounds. Really well build frame with strong upperhalf that goes alongside a well built fondation in his lower half. Maintains athleticism and could even look to fill out more mass as he ages.
Delivery: Clean and compact delivery that works with an easy leg lift and stacked sholders. Rotates over his front side well, while lacking some ability to block.
Arm Action: RH. Arm stays connected well from a 3/4 slot.
FB: T80, 78-79 mph. FB was in the zone consistently. Located it at the bottom of the zone well. WIll get ahead of a lot of hitters. Showed a 2 seam with arm side run, will be a good mix up to hitters T1885, 1702 average rpm.
CB: 67-70 mph. Sharp late biting action that has 11-5 break. Really stays on top and finishes out in front. Great feel for this pitch and it has a chance to be a really plus offering. Will put lefties away at a high clip as he blends his arm speed and action. together nicely with fastball intent. T2013, 1976 average rpm.
CH: 72-73 mph. CH had good armside fade. Looks like FB until its late movement. Capable of getting lots of weak contact from this pitch T1644, 1307 average rpm.
ATH: 7.58 runner in the 60. 1.77 and 4.18 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Braiden Meredith, Farragut (TN), 2027
Positional Profile: OF/LHP
Body: 5-10, 155-pounds. Long levers with a lengthy frame that has present twitch. Lacks some muscle and size but has present coordinated balance to his movements. Has a frame that could pack on a lot of mass.
Delivery: Has quicker tempo with medium size leg lift. Rotates more north to south than east west. Has trouble blocking with his lead leg, as he plants and pulls off towards first. Could be a big velocity gain with that change
Arm Action: LH. Compact arm with high 3/4 arm slot.
FB: T81, 79-80 mph. FB has some arm side run to it. Will get in on lots of RHH. Sets up his other pitches well T1940, 1766 average rpm.
CB: 72-74 mph. CB lacks depth and spin to it currently. Shows more rifle spin and a different pitch plane than fastball. Will need to look to stay on top of pitch with intent to create a natural 1/7 design. T1870, 1722 average rpm.
CH: 71-75 mph. CH showed flashes of good arm side movement with some depth. Could get a lot of swing and miss if he lets it run off the plate as well as a ground out pitch for 2-0 counts. T1811, 1714 average rpm.
ATH: 6.98 runner in the 60. 1.65 and 3.82 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Moxon Montieth, Silverdale Baptist (TN), 2027
Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 5-9, 130-pounds. Lanky frame on the slim side. Lacks present muscle but can add size. Will continue to get taller as he ages and could look to carry more mass.
Delivery: Has some present sit on his backside and is able to finish out on his front side. Can be unbalanced at times and pull off the first base before fully finishing his throw with his head.
Arm Action: RH. Over the top arm action that has some longness to it.
FB: T74, 73-74 mph. FB has really good hop to it and carries plane well up in the zone. Will be able to get ahead of hitters early as he spins it pretty decently for the current velocity. T2154, 2075 average rpm.
CB: 61-65 mph. CB has good shape, and was located in the zone well. CB will work great if it's mixed in consistently. Has good action to it and will keep hitters off the FB. T1872, 1789 average rpm.
CH: 65-65 mph. CH showed flashes of good arm side movement. Could get a lot of swing and miss if he lets it run off the plate. T1872, 1839 average rpm.
ATH: 8.22 runner in the 60. 1.83 and 4.44 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Jack Spence, Science Hill (TN), 2028
Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 5-4, 118-pounds. Light stature frame with time to mature through puberty and develop. Has plenty of room to add size and mass to build.
Delivery: Uses his whole body really well to maximize his force output. Late arm speed as he stays calm with his body before firing with excess intent. Gets around his offspeed at times. Will need to develop the necessary feel for pronation and body control as he cuts himself off to force break on his front leg, instead of allowing his arm action and wrist positioning upon release to affect those pitches currently.
Arm Action: RH. Quicker arm with appealing arm slot and position from 3/4.
FB: T63, 61-63 mph. Fastball will play by getting ahead. Has a lobbing shape to it still so will need to continue to develop arm strength and speed. Can look to stay away and attack lower level of strike zone. T1886, 1768 average rpm.
CB: 51-59 mph. Had some feel for creating breaking ball effect with downward 1/7 action. Spin could use some additional RPM's as it lacks some late sharp bite to it. Will play working off fastball down in the zone to off the plate. T1769, 1726 average rpm.
CH: 59-59 mph. CH was blended heavily with his fastball as it carried a lot of hop and little to no arm side movement. Will need to work on staying on the pitch and inside longer with late pronation. Killed spin so ability is present. T1319, 1278 average rpm.
ATH: 8.82 runner in the 60. 2.04 and 4.77 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Bayden Walsh, Christian Academy of Knoxville (TN), 2027
Positional Profile: SS/RHP
Body: 6-1, 138-pounds. Longer frame with fluid movements. Slim build that goes with long legs and torso. Will easily fell out as he develops and will put on size relatively easily in both lower and upper half.
Delivery: Really smooth hips but opens up somewhat early before gathering fully on his backside. Some present sit but relies more on his arm at the present moment.
Arm Action: RH. Long arm action that has some quickness to it from a hgih 3/4 arm slot.
FB: T68, 66-68 mph. Fastball has present lift to it, especially up in the zone. Could look to gain spin while it does carry some arm side run. Attacking away to RHH and getting ahead with this pitch will be key for him. T1823, 1715 average rpm.
CB: 58-60 mph. Shows ability to throw CB for strikes down in the zone. Lacks proper spin for better biting action. Will need to use this as a strike pitch to work off his fastball. Could be more of a weapon with better velocity. T1579, 1536 average rpm.
CH: 65-66 mph. CH had some arm side fade, will keep LHH honest. Locating it to the arm side will key. T1397, 1395 average rpm.
