TN HS Team Preview: Greenfield Jackets

Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Power 25 and much more.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Greenfield Jackets went 11-9 a season ago and were eliminated in the district tournament to eventual state tournament participant Bradford. This is a team that lost a lot of experience last year in the 2023 class and will look to rely heavily on a few 24 class prospects, as well as a host of players in the 2025 and 2026 class. The good news is that the Jackets will be returning 6 position players that started a season ago, to go alongside two other players that played meaningful innings that will look to take their next step in starting roles. The team will be led by 3 year starter Conor Wilson who offers versatility in the field, as well as Talon Reddick who can play just about anywhere but is still recovering from a shoulder injury that may keep him at second base or in the DH role. ‘24 class names to know and primary outfielders will be Landon Clark and Elijah St. Romain who should provide valuable experience in left and centerfield. . UTL Easton Sullivan, who batted primarily in the 2 hole a season ago and can play catcher, will be back in the lower part of the lineup, while also logging crucial innings on the mound. Caden Sparkman is another underclass prospect that was a consistent presence in 2023’s lineup. All in all, this is a team that has a solid core of good ball players and just lacks that consistent pitching presence. They will be a pitching group by committee until someone steps up to be their reliable arm to win meaningful games in district play and down the stretch. This is a scrappy bunch and can win games with the bats but will need run insurance to make a deep run into the postseason.

Utility/RHP Conor Wilson

Will man the hot corner and bat in the middle of the lineup.

MIF Talon Reddick

Looks to take back over SS, but still recovering from a shoulder injury that may keep him closer to 1st base.

OF Eli St. Romain

Should be their primary center-fielder and bat middle of the order.

OF Alex Garcia

Will be a guy that the Jackets will look to step up and man right-field.

OF Landon Clark

Consistent starter from a season ago and should be back in the middle of the lineup

1B Caden Sparkman

Could DH or play first depending on the situation and was a consistent player in the back half of the lineup a season ago.
