TN HS Team Preview: Northeast Eagles

Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Power 25 and much more.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Northeast Eagles finished 3rd a season ago in one of the toughest all-around districts in the state of Tennessee. Life doesn’t get any easier for the club as the 2023 state tournament representative Clarksville returns a host of talent, while Rossview will be looking to make a deeper run after a successful season a year ago. This is a team that is really young at the moment as they lost a handful of upperclassmen starters. Returning 4 position starters doesn’t seem all that bad, although two of those will just be sophomores this year, while they return one senior and one junior starter from last year's squad that played really competitively against some of the more talented teams in the Middle Tennessee area. ‘26 Jay Green will be back in the 2-hole where he provides consistent on-base ability and starting time as a freshman. Cam Skaggs is another ‘26 prospect that participated pretty heavily on last year's clubs and is looking to expand his role pitching and covering ground in the outfield. He offers mid 70’s on the FB, while showing ability to fill up the zone. Jackson Meece will be back as the primary 1st baseman and will be looked upon to rise up higher in the batting order to provide some decent power potential with a solid frame at 6 foot 2 and just over 200 pounds. Ethan Cramer is the only returning senior starter that was a flip the lineup kind of guy at the back of the order from 2023 and will be looked upon to expand his role even further this year if the Eagles are going to make it out of the district. Pitching should be this team’s strength as they held some really strong offensive teams down last year and will return their entire rotation of starters. Scoring 10+ runs 7 times a season ago may be more difficult this now as they lost a ton of offensive production, but look for more underclassmen to step up and offer reliability on a cohesive competitive team that will surprise some clubs this year with their play.
