Division II State Semifinal: No. 1 Bloom Carroll vs No. 3 Sandusky Perkins

COLUMBUS, OH – In what looked to be the best match-up in the entire tournament on paper, No. 1 Bloom Carrol showed why they are the topped ranked team in the state after a 10-0 dismantling of No. 3 Sandusky Perkins 10-0. 

The Game featured two of the top pitchers in the junior classSam Bordner vs Perkins in Louisville recruit Sam Bordner (RHP, pictured right) and Ohio State University recruit Braun Miller (LHP). 

However, Bordner was the only one who looked the part as the the Bulldog offense went to work on Miller.

Bloom Carroll scored two in the first and seven in the second to take a commanding 9-0 lead after two innings of action.

In the first, the Bulldogs capitalized on two Perkins errors.

Junior Roger Danison roped a one out single to right and scored on an RBI double to the right center gap by Bordner. After a walk and error, Bordner scored on a catchers interference to put the Bulldogs up 2-0.

Bloom Carroll exploded for seven runs on five hits in the second. Senior Brandon Bussert walked to leadoff the inning. After an out, Danison singled to left to bring Bordner to the plate. The powerful right-handed hitter roped a double to left center to score both Bussert and Danison.

Paszke followed with an RBI single to score Bordner. After Mitch Lambert was hit by a pitch, Scott Baker singled to right to load the bases, bringing an end of the day for Miller.

Perkins relief pitcher and Tiffin University commit Luke Fraley struck out his first batter, but a bases loaded walk and hit-by-pitch scored two runs with Jarrett Peters coming to the plate.

Peters roped a two-run single up the middle to put the Bailey Freas vs PerkinsBulldogs up 9-0.

That was more than enough for Bordner who ended up going three innings, allowing just one hit while striking out six.

With the big lead, Bloom Carroll took Bordner out in hopes to use him in the state championship game and put in Bailey Freas (pictured right) who went the final three innings allowing just one hit while striking out four.

Bloom Carroll finished the game in the sixth as they scored their 10th run on an Tyler Sorg single which scored Tristen Epp.

Top Performers:

  • Sam Bordner, went three innings allowing just one hit while striking out six. At the plate, went 2-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs.
  • Roger Danison, went 2-for-4 with two singles and two runs.
  • Bailey Freas, went three innings allowing just one hit while striking out four.
  • Luke Fraley, gave Perkins a chance as he came in relief allowing just two runs (1 ER) on four hits and one walk while striking out two.
