Q and A with Marietta recruit Connor Ryan (Strongsville HS)

Connor Ryan, LHP, Strongsville HS

PBR: Why did you choose Marietta?

Ryan: I chose Marietta because of the great reputation on and off the field. Being close to home wasn’t a huge deal, but is definitely nice to be able to have my parents come out and watch me play. And lastly the great coaching staff they have there, and the great program to go with it.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Ryan: Heidelberg, Mount Union, Ohio University, University of Dayton.

PBR: Where did the Marietta coaches first see you?
Ryan: The coaches first saw me at a couple of my games in the summer for my summer team. Later on they saw me again at the Buckeye Scout showcase in Columbus in the summer.

PBR: Marietta won the Division III National Championship last year.  How does it feel know that you will be playing for a national contender the next 4 years?
Ryan: It’s a great feeling knowing that every year the coaches won’t settle for anything less than a national championship. They expect 100% from every player and for them to leave it all on the field. It’s exciting knowing every you’ll be a part of a great organization and have a great team.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Ryan: The coaches expect me to come in and be an impact player from the beginning. Coach Brewer and Coach Deegan expect me to work hard to get better, and become a better ball player every year.

PBR:  What team do you play for in the summer?
Ryan: Lake Erie Bulldogs

PBR: What was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Ryan: Pitching in the championship game in the Buckeye Elite tournament was definitely something to remember along with all of the other tournaments we competed in.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Ryan:  My Strongsville High School coaches, Coach Sorge and Coach Freddy were  definitely a huge impact on how I play the game, and how I came along as a pitcher the last couple years. Also my previous summer ball coaches (Dave Bocanelli and Bruce Cicerchi) who helped me become the baseball player I am today. They taught me how to play the game the right way, and how to respect the sport.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Strongsville?
Ryan: 4-1. 2.07 ERA.  38 K’s. 11 BB

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?
Ryan: Hunter Smith from Perrysburg and Forrest Perron.
