By Seth Kenny

Glenbard East held on to beat Wheaton North 4-3 in DuPage Valley Conference play on Wednesday.

Wheaton Noth took a one run lead on a solo home run from junior 3B John Peltz, who took the first pitch he saw well over the left field wall to make it 1-0. Glenbard East reclaimed the lead in the third on a RBI single from senior catcher Chris Milligan, who had a solid 2-for-4 day with an RBI and a run scored. East added a needed insurance run in the top of the seventh when junior Mike Hansen delivered a run-scoring single. Senior RHP Patrick Walsh was able to hold on to the victory in the bottom of seventh.

Scouting Notes

  • Glenbard East senior RHP Patrick Walsh tossed a complete-game four-hitter, striking out six and walking one. His fastball sat at 83-84, touching 86 and was able to maintain velocity throughout the game. He commanded a 64-66 mph curveball, and 73-76 mph change up. He mixed pitches well throughout the game and kept the Wheaton North hitters off balance. He also showed a solid approach and swing, hitting in the four-hole.
  • For Wheaton North, junior 3B John Peltz showed solid actions and arm strength during pre-game and a physical explosive swing. He is a extremely physical 6-foot-3, 190-pound prospect who possesses big power potential at the plate.
  • Wheaton North junior OF Ryan Kent is a player to watch in the coming years. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitter has quick hands at the plate. His athleticism shined on a third-inning triple.
