The 6th annual Preseason All-State took place on Sunday, February 19th at Grand Park in Westfield, IN.  The invite-only event featured 88 players from Indiana's class of 2018. 

We began the rollout of the event a couple of weeks ago taking a look at the Stat Story and then the outfielders analysis. 

Today we continue the analysis with the corner infielders in attendance. 

Top 5

1. Jared Poland, 2B/3B, Cathedral HS, 2018

5-foot-11, 190 pounds, strong/athletic frame.  Offensively, the RHH hits from a slightly open, athletic setup, smooth load, minimal stride.  Short, slightly uphill swing path with quick hand speed, gets to extension.  Present pull-side pop.  Ability to drive the gaps.  Good barrel control.  Registered a high exit velocity of 88 mph.  Above average lower half.  Defensively, showcased athletic actions with above average glove work, fluid footwork, clean exchange.  Ran a 6.92 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash.  Louisivlle commit. 

2. Zyon Avery, C/3B/OF, Ben Davis HS, 2018 

6-foot-2, 215 pound, big, strong frame.  Offensively, hits from an open setup, smooth load, quick hands to the baseball.  Takes aggressive swings with quick bat speed.  Uphill swing plane, produces present power to his pull-side.  Strong lower half, at times gets his backside through.  Maintains balance throughout the swing.  Good approach.  Registered a high exit velocity of 95 mph. Defensively at 3B showcased soft hands with a clean exchange.  Moves well for his size, fluid feet.  Plays through the baseball with some athleticism.  Shows carry on his throws across the infield, topped out at 84 mph.  Ran a 7.13 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash.  Ohio commit. 

3. Kyle Wade, 3B/RHP, Kokomo HS, 2018 

Strong, athletic frame at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, muscular build.  Offensively, the RHH hits out of an athletic, wide setup.  Short stride, smooth load.  Average lower half; shows some stiffness.  Produces quick bat speed with an uphill swing plane.  Gets to extension, creates lift, barreled up the baseball during his BP.  Registered a high exit velocity of 89 mph.  Defensively, long high ¾ arm action with accuracy and carry at 85 mph.  Solid defender with sure hands, fluid feet, clean exchange.  Ran a 7.39 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash. 

4. Pat Mills, 1B/LHP, Western HS, 2018 

Projectable frame at 6-foot-4, 180 pounds.  Left-handed hitter hits from a wide, open setup, leg kick timing trigger, loads back with an arm.  Good use of his lower half.  Plus swing plane, long path.  Tendency to make contact deep in the zone.  Showcased pull-side power during his BP.  Above average bat speed.  Overall great approach at the plate with lots of projection. Registered a high exit velocity of 87 mph.  Defensively, throws topped out at 79 mph.  Clean exchange, plays through the baseball with fluid footwork.  Purdue commit. 

5. Michael Wyman, 1B, Center Grove HS, 2018

Physical 6-foot-1, 210 pounds.  Offensively, the RHH hits from a tall, athletic setup.  Small load back, leg kick timing trigger, shows good use of his lower half, maintains balance throughout the swing.  Long, uphill swing path with quick bat speed, good swing plane, produced hard contact, big power potential. Registered a high exit velocity of 87 mph.  Defensively, short arm action, throws topped out at 71 mph.  Moves well around the bag with sure hands, clean exchange.  Ran a 7.67 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash.

TJ Bass, 3B, Greenwood HS, 2018

6-foot-2, 220 pounds.  Offensively, the RHH hits from a wide/crouch setup.  Smooth load back, no stride.  Average bat speed, level swing plane.  Shows some stiffness in the lower half.  Maintains balance throughout the swing.  Displayed some pull-side power potential during his BP round.  Registered a high exit velocity of 90 mph. 

Sam Eaton, C/3B, Westfield HS, 2018

6-foot-1, 175 pounds.  RHH hits form an open setup, smooth back, small leg kick timing trigger.  Above average bat speed, long/level-to slightly uphill swing path.  Line drive type hitter with fluid rhythm.  Overall good approach at the plate with an average lower half.  Registered a high exit velocity of 88 mph.  Defensively at 3B fields the ball out front with good hands.  Fluid footwork. Short ¾ arm action, throws topped out at 78 mph.  Ran a 7.47 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash. 

Sam Edgell, 1B, Zionsville HS, 2018 

6-foot-1, 190 pounds. Offensively, left-handed hitter hits from an athletic setup, long stride, good use of the lower half.  Maintains balance throughout the swing.  Above average bat speed, fluid rhythm, level swing plane. Barreled up the baseball to all fields during his BP, producing hard hit line drives.  Overall good approach at the plate.  Registered a high exit velocity of 86 mph.  Long, ¾ arm action.  Throws topped out at 80 mph.  Sure handed defender.  Ran a 7.10 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash. 

Ethan English, 3B/1B, Jeffersonville HS, 2018

6-foot-3, 205 pounds, big strong frame.  Offensively, the RHH hits from an open crouch setup.  Smooth load, short stride.  Dives during the stride. Partial use of the lower half.  Long, uphill swing path, pull-side pop.  Quick bat speed.  Registered a high exit velocity of 91 mph.  Defensively, high ¾ arm action with accuracy and carry.  Throws topped out at 84 mph.  Showcased sure hands with fluid footwork.  Ran a 7.29 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash.  

Noah Luebbehusen, 1B/LHP, Jasper HS, 2018

Lanky frame at 6-foot-2, 160 pounds.  Offensivley, the RHH hits from a crouch setup, loads back, small toe-tap for timing.  Fair balance throughout the swing.  Showcased average bat speed, long/uphill swing plane.  Partial rotation with the lower half. Registered a high exit velocity of 81 mph.  Defensively, short ¾ arm action, throws topped out at 73 mph across the diamond.  Fields the ball clean with a clean exchange, plays through.  Tends to field the ball on his heels.  Ran a 7.67 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash. 

Alex Mitchell, C/3B, Decatur Central HS, 2018

5-foot-10, 150 pounds.  Offensively, hits from both sides of the plate. Mirrored setup from both sides.  Athletic, open setup, small leg kick timing trigger.  Average lower half.  Smooth load, average bat speed.  Appeared to have better separation and more bat speed from the right side.  Line drive approach.  Registered a high exit velocity of 77 mph.  Defensively at 3B short arm circle back, high ¾ slot.  Throws topped out at 75 mph across the infield.  Plays through the baseball with some athleticism.  Fluid footwork, sure hands, clean exchange.  Fielded every ball clean.  Ran a 7.20 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash.  

Braedon Payne, 1B/C, Avon HS, 2018

6-foot-1, 215 pounds.  Offensively, the RHH hits from a slightly open setup, short stride, smooth load. Partial rotation with the lower half, average balance.  Above average bat speed, showed the ability to get to extension, creates lift on the baseball.  Registered a high exit velocity of 90 mph.  Defensively, shorter ¾ arm action, throws topped at 73 across the infield.  Footwork is flat, clean exchange, average hands around the bag.  Ran a 7.65 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash. 

Hugh Pebworth, C/3B, Brebeuf HS, 2018

6-foot-3, 195 pounds.  Offensively, the RHH hits out of a slight crouch setup. Smooth load, long stride, wide finish.  Maintains balance.  Average bat speed, uphill swing plane.  Pull-side type hitter.  Has some stiffness in the lower half. Registered a high exit velocity of 86 mph.  Defensively at 3B throws from a shorter ¾ arm action with average strength.  Throws topped out at 78 mph.  Footwork is flat, average hands.  Ran a 7.17 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash.  

Julian Rutherford, 3B/2B, Griffith HS, 2018

5-foot-8, 170 pounds.  Offensively, the RHH hits from a tall/balanced setup.  Loads back, short stride, partial rotation with the lower half.  Long swing path, uphill plane.  Overall fair approach at the plate.  Registered a high exit velocity of 82 mph.  Defensively, short high ¾ arm action with average carry, throws topped out at 80 mph across the INF.  Fields it clean with a clean exchange, footwork is heavy.  Ran a 8.16 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash. 

Ryan Sauter, 3B, Center Grove HS, 2018

6-foot-1, 185 pounds.  Offensively, the RHH hits from a balanced setup.  Leg kick timing trigger, good use of the lower half, over rotates at times.  Small load, quick hand speed, aggressive swings.  Gets to extension, consistently barres up the baseball producing gap-to-gap type power.  Registered a high exit velocity of 83 mph.   Defensively, short ¾ arm action, throws topped out at 80 mph.  Sure handed 3B, fluid feet.  Ran a 7.27 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash. 

Drew Sitzer, 1B/RHP, Hamilton Southeastern HS, 2018

6-foot-2, 165 pounds.  Offensively, the RHH hits from a balanced setup.  Loads back, 2-part swing.  Produced average bat speed, long/uphill swing plane, line drive type hitter.  Overall fair approach at the plate.  Partial use of the lower half; stiff backside. Registered a high exit velocity of 84 mph.  Defensively, long high ¾ arm action with average strength.  Throws topped out at 81 mph.  Showcased fluid footwork, fields the ball on his heels, long exchange. 

Chris Torres, RHP/1B, Chesterton HS, 2018

6-foot-4, 190 pounds. Offensively, the RHH hits out of a balanced setup.  Loads back, small leg trigger, dives at times.  Average lower half, maintains balance throughout the swing.  Level swing path, gets to extension, average bat speed.  Registered a high exit velocity of 84 mph.  Defensively, showcased quick feet, quick exchange.  Short, high ¾ arm action, throws topped at 75 mph across the infield.  Ran a 7.56 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash.  

Adam Wildeman, 1B, Evansville Mater Dei HS, 2018

6-foot-2, 220 pounds.  Offensively, the LHH hits form a balanced setup, hands drop during the load, short stride.  Short, uphill swing path, average bat speed.  Over rotation with the lower half.  Registered a high exit velocity of 79 mph.  Defensively, long high ¾ arm action, throws topped out at 74 mph.  Footwork is heavy, packs during the exchange.  Ran a 7.82 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash.
