Covington Catholic 1B/OF Grant Schreiver , ranked No.5 in the class of 2014, became the fourth player in the class to issue a verbal commitment when he when he committed to Louisville.  We recently caught up with Schreiver to discuss his commitment.

PBR: Why did you choose Louisville?  

Schreiver: I chose Louisville because the great coaching staff said they are there to stay due to all of the amazing people at UL constantly improving the university.  They all made my family and I feel welcome from the moment we showed up.  Also I want to play at a very high level of ball and UL is a top tier program in the nation.

 PBR:  What other schools were you considering?   

Schreiver: Eastern Kentucky, Kentucky, Miami (OH), Western Kentucky, Central Florida, Tulane, Cincinnati.  

PBR:  Where did the coaching staff first see you play?   

Schreiver:  I went to Louisville’s camp in January.  

PBR:  What role do the coaches expect you to play throughout your first year?   

Schreiver: They plan to use my bat anyway they can. 

 PBR:  What would you consider your biggest strength as a player?  

Schreiver:  Mentally I am always prepared and focused on performing my best, and when it doesn’t work out I can move on to the next play. 

 PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on your career as a baseball player?  

Schreiver: My family in general has supported me, and I am blessed for everything they have done for me to play.  I don’t want to take that for granted.  

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer?  

Schreiver: Ohio Force  

PBR:  What is your most memorable baseball moment?  

Schreiver: Probably my first ever varsity game as a freshman. When I got my first hit and then scored, the other guys gave me the silent treatment for a few minutes before finally congratulating me. I thought they all hated me or something, but I couldn’t have asked for a better group of guys to play with and look up to.  

PBR:  Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in the state of Kentucky?  

Schreiver: I would say senior Blake Maines from Conner high school. Throws hard and keeps you off balance.  

PBR:  What are your goals for your junior season at Covington Catholic?
