2016 Spring Team Preview: West Bloomfield Lakers

Team Name: West Bloomfield Lakers
Head Coach: Eric Pierce, 97-60
Division: I
2015 Record: 23-10
Conference Record: OAA – White Division, 11-4, 1st place
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 4/2

2016 Team Strengths:

  • Leadership
  • Defense
  • Baseball IQ

2016 Team Weaknesses:

  • Experience on the mound
  • Experience in varsity games

Coach Outlook: We are a younger team but will be very talented. We need to have our returning players step up and accept new roles and have our younger players contribute in key positions. We lost over 80% of our total innings pitched last year with our graduating seniors, and are relying on new pitchers to fill the role of #1,2, and 3 in the rotation. We should be very solid defensively and will be able to score runs.

Top Returning Players:

  • Brendan Bilkovic, OF/P, 2016, 6’1” 160, captain, .500 OBP, Wayne State commit
  • Skylar Jeppesen, 3B/P, 2016, 6’5” 225, 20 RBI
  • Spencer Comps, INF/P, 2016, 5’10” 170, captain, .364 BA

Top Underclassmen:

  • Nick Seidel, 2018, C, strong arm
  • Jack Budde, 2018, R/R, can play any position, good hands at the plate, nice swing
  • Bryce Veasley, 2018, P/1B, R/R, strong, live arm, good point of contact at the plate
  • Taj Mustapha, 2018, C/OF, R/R, fast, athletic body, can play multiple positions, flashes of gap-to-gap power at the plate
