Team Alabama Junior Future Games: Day Three Recap

PBR Alabama Staff

From July 25th to July 30th, the Prep Baseball Report staff will run the PBR Junior Future Games at the state-of-the-art LakePoint Sports Complex in Emerson, Georgia.

The 10th Annual Invitation-Only event will feature the best identified 2027-2028 prospects from across the PBR Coverage Area in a five-day event at LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA. Participants will be given the unique opportunity of competing against other top-level players while representing their respective state in a high-level atmosphere.

This event will run in conjunction with the PBR Future Games. The Future Games features the top uncommitted players in the Class of 2025 and 2026 from across the Prep Baseball Report’s 40+ state coverage area. It is one of the most highly recruited events of the summer and attracts more than 300 college coaches from across the country each year.

This one-of-a-kind event will include individual workouts and a 4-game guarantee with single elimination bracket play to determine a champion in each age group.

+ OF Colin Watson (Daphne, 2027) has really had an impressive event so far this week for Team Alabama (1) and has made a large impact offensively. Listed at 5-foot-8, 160-pounds, the rising freshman has shown a consistent ability to hit and has always been on-time during his at-bats. The outfielder doesn’t take a pitch off and plays the game hard every pitch. After accumulating a couple hits on the first day of gameplay, Watson set the tone early for his squad yesterday with a laser into the pull-side gap for a leadoff triple and eventually came home to score on heads-up baserunning on a high chopper on the next play. He has good rhythm and an athletic offensive setup from the right side, and continues to find firm contact throughout the week.

+ LHP/OF Drew Jackson III (American Christian, 2028) has really cemented himself as a quality two-way prospect in the 2028 class in AL. Listed at 5-foot-9, 150-pounds, Jackson is a solid athlete all-around and can hit and pitch at a high level for a player of his age. The southpaw took the ball in a pivotal game that would determine whether Team Alabama 13U would make the Gold or Silver Bracket, and proceeded to battle against a tough lineup to give his team a lead when he exited the game. He worked up to 81 mph with his fastball with 2400+ rpm on the offering while inducing mostly weak contact throughout. It was a gutsy outing and showed the ability to pound the zone with multiple pitches. The left-hander has also taken quality swings all week on the offensive side, as well.

+ INF Shelby Houston (Southside-Gadsden, 2027) continues to make a sizable impact for Team Alabama (2) on the offensive side with a few big run-scoring hits throughout the first few days of gameplay. Listed at 6-foot-0, 150-pounds, is a lean prospect that has solid athleticism in his overall game and room to add strength as he continues to develop. Hitting from the right side, Houston uses the whole field in his approach and is athletic enough to make adjustments mid-swing. He has solid feel for the barrel and has delivered some clutch hits so far for his team over the last couple of days.

(7/28/23)

+ 1B/RHP Danny Lumpkin (Bayside Academy, 2028) stands an advanced 6-foot-3, 190-pounds and looks like anything but a rising eighth-grader. Lumpkin is a solid two-way player that really made a large impact in Team Alabama 13U’s big 10-9 victory that sent them into the Gold Bracket. Hitting from the right side, the rising eighth-grader had the biggest swing of the week so far for his squad with a loud two-RBI double deep into the opposite-field gap that registered an exit velocity of 92.0 mph off the bat. The ball jumps off his bat when he connects using his impressive frame with intriguing power potential. On the mound, he tossed the final couple of innings in relief while working in the upper-70s with his fastball.
