Our first look at 2015 catcher Chance Bodine (Bethlehem HS) came at the Kentucky College Prospect Showcase in January.  At 6-foot-1, 180-pounds, Bodine has an athletic frame and showed the potential to be not only a quality defensive catcher, but also one that can generate offensive production as well.  Defensively, he displayed solid receiving skills, good athleticism, and pop times that ranged from 1.96-2.07 that featured a quick transfer and release.  At the plate, Bodine got good involvement from his lower half, got to extension well, and showed the potential to hit for power.  As expected, Bodine has used the skills we saw in January to have a breakout season this spring for Bethlehem.

As of May 15, Bodine was hitting .377 with eight doubles, two triples, two home runs, and 18 RBI.  Bethlehem head coach Roger Robinson said Bodine has been a guy they have relied on heavily this spring.

“Chance is having a very good year for us both offensively and behind the plate,” Robinson said.  “We have played a very good schedule and have faced a lot of No. 1 pitchers from some of the top teams in the state.  Chance has batted in the number four spot in the lineup and has handled it extremely well.”

Robinson wasn’t kidding about the schedule which has included games with St. Xavier, Lexington Catholic, Bullitt East, Covington Catholic, Danville, DeSales, and Tates Creek.  All of those teams spent at least several weeks in the Power 25 rankings this season.

Bodine will be participating in the Top Prospect Games Event at Western Kentucky University June 17-18.  In the meantime, Bethlehem has a 5:30 PM 5th Region tournament matchup with Central Hardin this evening at Central Hardin.
