Luke Correia, C, Copley HS, Class of 2017

PBR: Why did you choose Mercyhurst College?

Correia: I choose Mercyhurst because right away I felt it was a great fit for me. Their baseball program has a long history of success, most  recently being ranked nationally this past year, The campus was beautiful, and offered me the academic opportunities I was looking for in a college.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Correia: Mount Vernon Nazerine, University of Charleston, WV, Marietta, Montevalllo, Tri C.

PBR: Where did Mercyhurst first see you?

Correia: Mercyhurst saw me compete in the Buckeye Elite Tournament in Columbus. Mercyhurst also attended the Ohio Longhorn/Ohio Elite Showcase this past summer where I participated. From there, I began to have weekly conversations with the coaching staff, scheduled a campus visit, and had a workout with the Mercyhurst baseball staff.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Correia: The coaching staff at Mercyhurst have the same expectations for me as I do for myself. Show up prepared to work hard, be a good teammate, and compete.

PBR:  What team do you play for in the summer and what sort of sacrifices did you have to make to play a travel intensive schedule during the summer?

Correia: I play for the Ohio Longhorns, this past season we played 62 games. Best advice I could give any player is to be prepared for a grind. Get physically stronger, hit the weight room hard, and be prepared for some ups and some downs.

PBR: What was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Correia: The most memorable experience for me this summer was being with my Longhorn teammates throughout season, and sharing the success we had as a team.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Correia: First of all my parents for all their support, and sacrifices they have made. The many summer coaches, instructors, my high school coaches, and all the Longhorn family of players and coaches.

PBR: What were your stats for last spring?

Correia: My stats: 349 BA, 40 RBI, OBP 514, 11 doubles, 34 BB, 13 HBP

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?

Correia: Toughest pitcher I have faced was Drew Kline, (Findlay Commit) last spring in high school district semis.
