Neuqua Valley (28-9) exploded for three-runs in the fifth inning, all after two outs to rally past the Tigers on Friday. Tyler Tesmond crushed a game-tying double and then scored on a clutch RBI single from Wildcat no. 9 hitter Josh Piotrowski. Piotrowski’s game-winner concluded a perfect 3-3 for the junior OF.

On the mound, Western Kentucky-bound RHP Cody Coll allowed one earned run in 6 1/3 innings to pick up the win. Creighton-bound RHP David Gerber retired the final two Tiger hitters to nail down the save.

RHP Jordy Sheinkop fired 2 1/3 innings of one-hit relief to nail down the save for Patriot starting and winning pitcher Matt Allen.

NILES WEST SECTIONAL

Maine South 5 Elk Grove 2
Maine South (23-10) junior leadoffman Gehrig Parker strolled up to the plate with his Hawks trailing 2-0 in the top of the second. Parker crushed a bases-clearing triple to give the Hawks the lead they would never relinquish as Maine South defeated Elk Grove (24-11) on Friday. Senior LHP Brian Jones and Hawk junior RH closer Bobby Pennington combined for a three-hitter against the Grenadiers. Jones (6-2) allowed two runs and three hits in his game-winning 6 1/3 inning stint, while the hard-throwing RHP Pennington retired the final two EG hitters to pick up his seventh save of the season.

ST. IGNATIUS SECTIONAL

In the fourth inning, the Eagles plated the only run of this thriller, when sophomore CF Phil Van Zale hammered a booming triple and then scored on a clutch RBI single from Eagle sophomore Jordan Jackson. Freshman Dylan Gilbert had the only hit for the Wolfpack.
