PBR Spotlight Game: No. 6 St. John's Prep vs. Haverhill

With the wind blowing in hard all day, offense was at a premium. #6 St. John’s Prep was able to get just enough offense to remain undefeated (2-0) and beat Haverhill 2-1.

Prep started senior Justin Kerhulas (St. Anselm’s commit) opposite Haverhill’s Mike McIntosh. Both pitchers were in control early.

McIntyre was able to work out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the 3rd by getting senior Teddy McNamara to ground out into a fielder’s choice with two outs to keep the game scoreless.

After both teams found themselves hitless through 4 and a half innings, junior Jack Arend drew a leadoff walk after a tough nine pitch at bat.

After stealing second base (three steals on the day), Arend was moved to 3rd on a ground ball by senior Nick Latham (BC commit).

Arend plated the first run of the game after an error by the second baseman with the infield in on a hard hit ball by junior Jacob Yish (BC commit). With Yish on 1st, senior Keith Leavitt (Penn State commit) ripped a double down the first base line, putting runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out, bringing to the plate McNamata.

The senior then hit a double deep to center field despite the wind, scoring Yish but Leavitt was thrown out at home on a strong relay throw. McIntyre then recorded the third out to keep the game at 2-0.

Haverhill answered with a run in the 6th after junior Nolan Webb, who issued 4 walks in the inning, walked Sean Doherty who had both Haverhill hits on the day.

Senior Drew Farris was called upon with the bases loaded and two outs to keep the 2-1 lead and it took only one pitch for him to induce a ground ball to McNamara at 3rd to end the potential rally.

Farris went onto record a 1-2-3 7th inning to nail down the save and keep St. John’s Prep unbeaten.
