GHSA Scout Blog: Week 7

The Georgia Scout Blog will be a weekly blog with reports and videos from the players and teams that we go out to cover each week. The blog will remain for the length of the week with notes being added the day following from each game. At the end of the week we will update the POWER 25 and CLASSIFICATION RANKINGS, then at the beginning of the following week we will announce 2 Player of the Week awards, along with our Diamond Notes, which is a culminaton of all players that were not selected for player of the week. Note: Player of the Week submissions are sent in by high school coaches.
Week of March 25th
Alex Hernandez, RHP/INF, 2024, Forsyth Central
A standout two-way performance for the Georgia Tech commit in a big region series win. Scattering just two hits in a run-rule complete game shutout, Hernandez worked in the low-90s with good arm-side life and above-average command to land for in-zone misses. Leaned on the power curveball at 77-79 early and often in counts with late snap and immense depth. Created 10 whiffs on the breaking ball in the outing. Changeup can be devastating to left-handed hitters 84-85 with hard arm-side fade that disappears from the barrel. Present pitchability shows consistently for Hernandez. At the plate, he helped himself early, finding a loud barrel on an elevated fastball for an RBI double in the gap. Showed a good ability to match plane while showing the present above-average bat speed. The two-way profile for Hernandez remains one of the best in the state.
Josh Gibbs, SS, 2025, Forsyth Central
It’s become clear this spring that Gibbs is among one of the best pure bats in the 2025 class, and yet another quality look this week. The Georgia commit is twitchy with plenty of moving parts at the plate but consistently does an excellent job on being on-time and balanced. Hands stand out every time with huge bat speed and the ability to create immense plate coverage throughout the zone to find impact to all-fields. Picked up a pair of backside hits including a two-strike triple with the bases loaded to RCF. Plus arm strength at short with good range and quick hands on the transfer. Rarely looks out of control and offers staying power in the middle infield.
David Falloon, OF, 2024, Dacula
Standing 6-foot-4, 210-pounds, the Mercer commit is a physical presence roaming in centerfield with good range and advanced routes to the ball from a long stride. Falloon keeps it extremely simple at the plate creating some separation before showing good bat speed in a linear, line-drive approach. Present feel for both the zone and the barrel. The floor is high for the outfielder, and has a chance to make an immediate impact on campus.
