Arkansas' Year in Review: #11 MLB Draft Picks

For our number 11 story we review the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft. There were two Arkansans selected. Today we look at who they were and the senior campaigns they both had that led to them being selected.

Blake Wiggins, Catcher, Pulaski Academy,
Wiggins was drafted in the 36th round 1072 overall by the Philadelphia Phillies. During his high school career at Pulaski Academy he led the Bruins to a 5A State Title in 2013 and a State Runner-Up in 2014. He is a power right handed hitting catcher that looks to transition to a corner infield position at the collegiate level. Blake was highly decorated during his high school career receiving the following accolades. 5A All-State (2014) 4A All-State (2012) 5A All State Tournament Selection (2013/2014), All Conference (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014) Arkansas High School Coaches Association Senior All-Star Game. Coached by Billy Adams at Pulaski Academy and played for the East Coast Grays, coached by Joe Caruso. Blake decided to attend school at the University of Arkansas instead of signing a professional baseball contract.

Eric White, RHP, Parkers Chapel High School,
Eric White is a RHP with a 6-foot-4 200-pound frame he attended Parkers Chapel High School. He was selected in the 32 round, with the 956th pick by the Milwaukee Brewers. He possess a nice athletic build, some that is very projectable. His fastball topped out at 91 mph. He used both a 2 seam and 4 seam fastball. The 2 seam had heavy sink with arm-side run. His secondary pitchers are a curveball with 12/6 shape and good depth and a change up that was a work in progress. White was an All-State and All-State Tournament Selection in 2014 he was an All-Conference selection in 2012, 2013 and 2014. He was coached by Mark Looney at Parkers Chapel High School. Eric decided to attend school at Dallas Baptist University instead of signing a professional contract.
