WEEK 5 SCOUT BLOG

+ 2024 OF/LHP Sawyer Strosnider - Brock - TCU

The 2022 Future Gamer has seen his stock continue to rise over the last 9 months, and I headed out Saturday to watch him in action. There aren’t many players in the country with better pure tools than Strosnider. He truly has special athleticism and it is evident on the field. While his future is in CF, he started on the bump this day and showed off his elite arm talent. He topped out at 93.6 on my gun and didn’t throw a fastball under 90 in the first. At the plate, Strosnider had 2 knocks on the day, including an oppo double.  He was pull happy early in the game and the approach wasn’t there, but as the game went on he got back to the big part of the field and got some knocks.  Strosnider has one of the bigger upsides in the state, and it will be interesting to see it play out the next couple of months.

+ 2024 SS Sawyer Farr - Boswell - Texas A&M

The 6’5 switch hitting shortstop can make the game look easy at times, as there aren’t that many that are that big and move that gracefully at short. His in and out was effortless yet crisp and he made a couple really impressive instinct plays during the game.  While I was there, he walked and then had a couple ab’s where he didn’t do anything. After his ab in the 6th I left, and of course Boswell had a big comeback and he came up left handed in the 7th and hit a game tying HR. Farr has seen his power stroke from the left side really improve this year, and he is elevating the ball with authority at a higher rate.  Farr is another one who is going to have a very interesting next couple months as it pertains to the MLB draft.

+ 2025 RHP Mason Bell - Boswell HS - Uncommitted

The uncommitted Jr. got the rock last Tuesday against Paschal, and while it wasn’t his best night, he showed quality stuff and a frame that projects for more.  Bell’s fastball was up to 88 and I could see him being higher on other nights. It is a clean arm stroke from a stretch only delivery, and he is an easy mover down the mound. He didn’t always get into his legs, and his velo would fluctuate. He threw a slider and changeup, both flashing at times in the outing. The change was good against lefties, but maybe threw a couple too many times against righties.  The breaking ball showed well against lefties and righties and has a chance with more power.

+2026 SS Canon Lightfoot -Brock - Uncommitted

One of the players I haven’t had a chance to see play up till Saturday was Lightfoot. And as you might expect, he did all the little things right and also showed a lot of talent. He laid down a perfect bunt early in the game for a base hit and also swung away later in the game and got himself a barrel. It is a good swing from the left side with good hands. As he gets stronger he should be able to impact the baseball consistently gap to gap. He looked the part at short, and looks like he has a chance to stay there long term. Overall, it was a good day for the sophomore, and he will be one to follow moving forward.

+ 2024 RHP/OF Kade Eudy  - Crosby - TCU

The senior righty got the start for Crosby on Friday night, and while the outcome wasn’t what he wanted, Eudy showed some high end stuff. First, he is a good athlete and moves down the mound effortlessly. It is easy to envision him being able to continue to throw harder with his frame and the way he moves. He was up to 89 on this night and showed the ability to throw it up in the zone with good ride. He also showed two secondary pitches that I think both have a chance to be above average over time. The slider and change both came out easy with good shape and arm speed. Eudy also showed athleticism in the box, and got off multiple good swings on the night. Overall, it is easy to get excited for what Eudy could become.

+ 2024 RHP Gavin Voth - Liberty Hill - Concordia University

Voth is listed at 6’4” 178lbs and is a Concordia Univerity (Austin) signee. He has good mound presence and doesn’t let much bother him while he’s at work. The FB was mostly 83-84 but he reached back a few times for 87. He ended up going 5.1 IP, giving up 3 R (1 ER) and gave the Panthers a chance to win, which they did in extra innings. I believe there is more in the tank, considering the frame, as he continues to develop and add strength.

+ 2024 LHP Carson Henderson - Rouse - Temple College

Henderson came on in relief and kept Rouse in the game. He went 4.1 IP with 7 Ks. With an over the top delivery, the FB/CB was effective. The FB was mostly 81-82 and was up to 84 at times. The CB was in the low 70s but played well off the FB out of the same release point and was tough for opposing hitters to pick up. Henderson competed and showed his ability to make big pitches when it mattered most.

+ 2024 RHP/CIF - Oscar Salazar - Rouse - Weatherford College

This was my first time seeing Salazar on the mound. The Weatherford commit didn’t have his best stuff and was chased after 2.2 IP due to walks but the stuff is there for sure. The FB was mostly 87-89, touching 90 a few times. The SL was 79-78 and the CB was 75-76. His best secondary is his CH that he threw to RHH & LHH in any count. He showed really good feel for the pitch and leaned on it at times.

+ 2025 SS Cooper Martin - Davenport - Uncommitted

Martin has a tall, lanky build, standing at 6’3”, 180lbs. He was hitless in the game I attended but the swing and approach look the part. What really stood out on the day was his ability to defend at SS. He made the routine plays look easy and had a great play on a slow roller. He got the runner by a step on a sow chopper that no one thought he had a chance at to end the inning.

+ 2024 OF Brayden Mulkey - Davenport - Baylor

Mulkey didn’t have his best game but still showed his present athleticism and twitch. I always like watching Mulkey because you can tell he loves the game and wants to win every AB. He is a prototypical leadoff hitter, with speed and barrel control but he does have sneaky power as well. I look forward to seeing him again down the road.

+ 2025 CIF/RHP - Hudson McNew - Boerne - Uncommitted

Although McNew had only one hit on the night, he had a few loud outs and showed that he is a threat to change the game in one swing. The Physical Jr. was in the DH spot and did not get cheated in the box. The 6’4” 240lb frame is imposing in the box and he has present pull side pop. McNew is a key piece for the Greyhounds out of the 4 hole. The clean up hitter also moves pretty well for his size.

+ 2024 INF Grant Tamplet - Boerne - Uncommitted

The second basemen set the tone for the Greyhound early, getting them on the board with a 2 RBI line drive single to RF. He would later have another RBI single. The thing that impressed me most about Tamplet was his ability to grind out ABs, fouling off countless pitches and getting into deep counts before finding the barrel. He clearly understands what he is trying to do every time he steps in the box.

+ 2025 OF Brooks Perez - Boerne - Houston Commit

The Physical Jr. looks the part and seems to have added some strength. He is listed at 6’3” 185 and can run a little bit. He had two hits in the game I attended, including 2 RBI. He does a good job letting the ball travel and going the other way with authority. We have seen Perez show well in-event and it was good to see it translate to the game.

+ 2025 OF Dylan Perez - Boerne - Baylor Commit

Perez leads off and plays CF for the Greyhounds. He has a good eye at the plate but is looking to do damage when he gets his pitch. He drew a walk and hit a homerun in the game I saw and now has six home runs on the year as it stands. He does a good job generating power from a smaller frame and can really go get it in CF.
