By John Cackowski

Lakewood - In a game that featured two of the better arms at the 4A level, the Valor Eagles came away with a 3-1 victory over the Evergreen Cougars in a matchup of . 2019 RHP Davis Heller of the Eagles matched up against 2016 RHP Dane Kapande and both did not disappoint.

The Eagles had Kapande on the ropes first in the first inning. 2017 OF Joel Pierce would lead off the game by a HBP, and then 2018 C Noah Kuzma would single. A passed ball would move the runners up to 2nd and 3rd and  2017 OF Blake Donnels took advantage driving in both with a single to center to go up 2-0.

This would end up being all of the runs the Eagles would need, and Heller and 2018 RHP/3B Luke Ziegler would take it from there. Heller would go on to pitch 4 solid innings giving up 3 hits and an unearned run striking out 5, and Ziegler threw 3 innings giving up 4 hits, 0 runs, and struck out 1.

Kapande would eventually settle down for the Cougars and pitched a solid game going the distance. In 7 innings he only gave up 5 hits, 2 earned runs striking out 3.

The young Eagles are now 12 and 3 on the season, and are really starting to showcase their talent and depth at the end of the year winning 6 in a row. The Cougars dropped to 9 and 5.

Next up for the Eagles will be an away game at Standley Lake on 4-30-16, and the Cougars will play an away game on the same day against Wheat Ridge.
