Why did you choose Mount Mercy?
WOODS: I chose Mount Mercy because I felt like it gave me a good opportunity to grow as a baseball player, work with coaches that are all in and want to see you succeed on and off the field, and excel in the classroom. The new field and old teammates are just an added bonus of course!

Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?WOODS: I spoke to an assistant that had seen my numbers on the PBR website from the showcase I did last February, and wanted to talk to me about the possibility of playing at Mount Mercy next year. Eventually I went on a visit, met Coach Dahm, and continued contact with them.

What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?
WOODS: I'd like to contribute anyway I can from the beginning. I've spoken with Coach Dahm about some different opportunities available to me next year, and that's all I can ask for. When given the opportunity, I want to go out there and do whatever I can to win the game for my team, whatever role that may be.

Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
WOODS: I can't say one person, because it’s a large group of people that have helped me get to this point. I know I always have my family and friends in my corner and they will support me no matter what. All my coaches I've had in baseball or basketball growing up have impacted me and pushed me to become even more then I thought I was capable of, and of course there are those that doubt you. I've always felt like an underdog and that had I had to prove myself to them, but eventually I learned that I only have to meet my own expectations. Those expectations are still pretty high.

What have you worked on/improved since last year?
WOODS: This Fall I've been working on being smoother to home plate so I'm more consistent in my delivery and in the strike zone. I've also been working on the mental aspect of baseball, mound presence, and getting stronger for next season.

Who is the best player that you have played against or with?
WOODS: Definitely Anthony Alepra and Matt Berst. Getting to play with these guys the last few years, and watching them go about their training was so helpful to me. Seeing them work as hard as they did, it never surprised me when Matt launched one over the fence, or when Anthony made someone look bad while striking them out.

What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice?
WOODS: The recruiting process can get to your head and throw you off if you overthink things. The best advice I can give is that you should have fun playing baseball, and work at it if you want to play in college. Find the school that is best for you.
