If you are trying to get a hit against Blue Valley Northwest HS this year you might want to stay out of the middle of the field.  For starters, they have two Prep Baseball Report Preseason All-State First Team middle infielders in Clayton Custer and Jackson Fuller.  Throw in a prime athlete in centerfield in Sam Chadick and there isn’t much space left for a baseball not to find a glove.

The  strong 5-foot-11, 180-pound Chadick, an unsigned senior, had a setback when he injured his hand early last summer and after missing several months is back to 100% and ready for the start of the 2014 season.

Chadick’s athleticism was on display at this January’s Johnson County Community College Showcase.  It was there he ran a 6.68 60-yard dash (2nd best time in camp), 4.1 home-to-1B from the right side and also showed a 91 mph exit velocity during the hitting evaluations.  He also threw 82 mph from the outfield.

Tenth year Huskies head coach Corby Lange is more than glad to have the speedy right-hand hitting centerfielder back in the fold, “I am really excited for him this year.  He has improved in strength, speed and swing mechanics.  He is a dedicated baseball player.  He might be one of the fastest players in the state.  He has a great arm and tracks a ball extremely well.”

“I think his best skill and probably least known skill is great command of the strike zone and plate discipline as a hitter.  When you combine his pop and with his speed and strike zone judgment it makes it for a pretty nice offensive player.  He has been working hard and hoping for a breakout year, he could really give our team a lift if he reaches his potential this season.  I think this will be good year for Sam Chadick and he has become a pretty complete player and we are glad to have him as a Husky.”

Chadick, who was also a standout on the gridiron as a wide receiver, cornerback and safety prior to being injured is focused on playing baseball at the next level.  He’s had conversations with several 4-year and 2-year schools with several more planning to come watch him this spring.

He currently carries a 3.70 GPA and recorded a 22 ACT but is scheduled to take it again.  His academic interests are biology and medical fields.
