Kentucky Team of the Week: McCracken County Mustangs

By Chris Fuller

With seven consecutive wins, the McCracken County Mustangs were riding high and playing their best baseball of the season entering last week.  It was a trend that would continue.

The Mustangs stretched that winning streak to ten games with a 3-0 week, and it wasn’t just the fact that they won three games, but also who they defeated in those contests, that mattered.

The week began with an 8-7 victory over Bartlett, TN, a team ranked No. 7 in the latest Tennessee state baseball poll.  In fact, Bartlett is ranked No. 4 in the AAA (big school division) rankings.

That win was followed up the next day with an impressive 4-0 shutout over Memphis University School.

And to top things off on Saturday, the Mustangs routed Henderson County by a 10-2 score.

The ten-game winning streak has spanned more than three weeks as their last loss occurred in Florida on March 31.  The Mustangs will attempt to continue that streak this evening with a home game against Paducah Tilghman, a team they handled 11-0 on April 9.

For their performance on the field last week, the McCracken County Mustangs have been selected as the Prep Baseball Report Kentucky Team of the Week.
