With last week’s release of the Pre-Season Power 25, and the release of the Pre-Season Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year and 1st team All-State selections: Prep Baseball Report Louisiana continues its look ahead to the 2016 season with the release of the Pre-Season 2nd team All-State selections.

Catcher

+ Austin Kirkpatrick, C, Teurlings Catholic HS(2016)
A 6-foot-1, 155-pound catcher and outfielder with a lean, athletic frame. Outstanding defensive catcher that showed the ability to receive, block and throw at a high level with a pop time of 1.86 seconds and a positional velocity of 75 mph. Showed outstanding athleticism behind the dish with loose hips and a high energy level. Right-handed hitter with a balanced setup, smooth load, short stride, efficient lower half and solid balance. Displays quality bat speed with a level path, line-drive approach and fluid rhythm that produced an 81 mph exit velocity.

Infield

+ Zachary Watson, INF, West Ouachita HS(2016)
A 6-foot, 165-pound infielder with a lean, athletic frame. Fast twitch athlete and outstanding runner that has posted eye-opening 60 yard dash times (6.5 60 yard dash). Right-handed hitter with short, compact swing, flat path that finds the barrel consistently with quality bat speed. Solid defender with soft hands and arm strength across the diamond.

+ Trey Morgan, INF, West Feliciana HS(2016)
A 6-foot, 180-pound infielder with a strong, developed, athletic frame. Solid defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges with short, quick arm action out of a high-3/4 release with accuracy, a positional velocity of 80 mph. Right-handed hitter with an athletic setup, short stride with a tap, explosive lower half, solid balance, explosive bat speed, an uphill bat path with great extension, and a gap to gap approach with fluid rhythm that produced an exit velocity of 87 mph. Also posted 7.12 60 yard dash.

+ Will Ryan, INF, Neville HS(2017)
A 6-foot-2, 179-pound shortstop with an athletic, strong frame. Solid overall athlete that ran a 7.03 laser timed 60 yard dash. Quality defender with soft hands, quick footwork, quick and clean exchange with a short arm action into a mid-3/4 arm slot that showed accuracy and produced an 87 mph positional velocity. Profiles well at third base showing an advanced tool set at the hot corner. Right-handed hitter with an athletic setup, smooth load, slight leg kick, explosive lower half, excellent balance that showed a level bat path, line-drive, gap to gap approach and fluid rhythm in batting practice all weekend and produced an exit velocity of 93 mph.

+ Hayden Cantrelle, INF, Teurlings Catholic HS(2017)
A 5-foot-10, 165-pound short-stop and right-handed pitcher with an average, athletic frame. Switch hitter that hits from a balanced setup with a smooth load, short stride, explosive lower half, and excellent balance. Showed a compact, flat bat path with line-drive, gap to gap approach with fluid rhythm an bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 81 mph. Quality defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, quick, clean exchange and plays through balls well. Showed solid arm strength out of a high-3/4 arm slot that produced an 80 mph positional velocity with accuracy on throws.

Outfield

+ Tremaine Spears, OF, Tioga HS(2016)
A 5-foot-11, 195-pound outfielder with a strong, developed, athletic frame. Solid overall athlete and surprising runner for his size. Right-handed hitter with bat speed, strength at contact and present power potential.

+ Tre Turner, OF, Holy Cross HS(2016)
A 5-foot-10, 180-pound outfielder with a strong, compact and athletic frame. Plus runner with elite level fast twitch actions and strength. Solid defender with great speed and tracking instincts. Right-handed hitter with raw bat speed, big strength at contact, developing bat path, and has shown the ability to consistently hit the fastball. Also is a two-sport star that committed to play football at Arizona State.

+ Preston Faulkner, OF, Live Oak HS(2017)
A 6-foot, 194-pound outfielder with a strong, physical, athletic frame. Right-handed hitter with a tall, balanced setup, smooth load, leg kick and solid balance throughout the swing. Line-drive type hitter with a gap to gap approach, fluid rhythm throughout that showed exceptional bat speed recording a 91 mph exit velocity. Defensively he showed soft hands, fluid footwork, a quick and clean exchange, played through balls nicely and produced an 86 mph positional velocity from the outfield with a long arm action into a high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws.

Utility

+ Miguel Reyes, RHP/INF, Lafayette HS(2017)
A 6-foot-2, 215-pound infielder and right-handed pitcher with a large, physical, strong, and athletic frame. Right-handed hitter that hits out of an athletic, open setup with a slight wrap and bar in the load, short stride with an explosive lower half and solid balance. Pull hitter with fluid rhythm and level path with bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 92 mph. Solid defense infielder with average hands, a clean exchange, and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 82 mph. Right-handed pitcher with a short arm action and a stab on the backend into a high-3/4 release, quick arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 85-88 mph with sink, and was consistently throw within the strike zone. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape, sharp break, and fastball arm speed at 75-78 mph. Flashed changeup with near fastball arm speed and solid fade action at 75-76 mph.

Pitcher

+ Matthew Beck, RHP, Alexandria Senior HS(2016)
A 6-foot-5, 200-pound right-hander with a long, athletic frame. Clean, fast arm action with some effort out of a mid-3/4 release that has quality tilt and angle. Fastball sits 86-89 mph and will touch 90 mph with solid life. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape, spins correctly with decent depth and deception. Overall raw product with arm strength, size and upside.

+ Blair Frederick, LHP, Brother Martin HS(2016)
A 6-foot, 180-pound left-handed pitcher with a lean, athletic frame. Simple, repeatable delivery with a clean, loose arm action.  Fastball sits 86-89 mph and has touched 94 mph. Flashes a swing and miss slider at 77-80 mph with hard, tight spin and quality depth.

+ Ma’Khail Hilliard, RHP, Central(BR) HS(2017)
A 6-foot, 145-pound right-handed pitcher with a lean, athletic frame. Long, loose arm action with lightning quick arm speed into a high-3/4 release and easy effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square, and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 86-88 mph with late cut and life. Breaking ball showed 10/4 shape with late, sharp break and fastball arm speed at 76-78 mph. Also showed a changeup with fade action and fastball arm speed at 79-80 mph.

+ Keagan Gillies, RHP, Brother Martin HS(2016)
A 6-foot-8, 226-pound right-handed pitcher with a long, lean frame. Long arm action with regular effort in ¾ release. Fastball sits 86-88 mph touching 91 mph with severe tilt, angle, and late hard cutting action. Breaking ball spins well with 12/6 shape, quality depth, deception and hard, late break.
