Prep Baseball Report Minnesota's Prospect I.D. event for 2017 grads took place at Vet's Field at Minnetonka High School in Minnetonka, MN. The event featured over 50 prospects from the 2017 class who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff along with college coaches and professional scouts in attendance.

A huge thank-you to Head Coach Paul Twenge at Minnetonka High School for being so accommodating and assisting with the event.

The event was launched to create a "Sophomore Day" type event to be held one day before the MN High School Baseball Coaches Association's Junior Showcase.

MN PROSPECT i.d. EVALUATIONS (listed Alphabetically)

Riley Ahern, RHP, Holy Angels, 2017
6-foot-2, 200-pound right-handed pitcher. Up tempo delivery to plate. Drop and drive. Clean arm action. Lands open to plate with good direction. Fastball shows late run with average command at 78-80 mph. Curveball has solid shape and rotation with 12/6 break at 65-67 mph. Changeup has downhill plane with good action at 72-74 mph.

Michael Anderson, C/RHP, St. Clair, 2017
6-foot-1, 190-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Ran a 7.1 60. Limited rhythm in swing. Stuck on backside. Out and around at contact- underneath baseball. Whole field approach. 80 mph exit velocity off tee. Receives side-saddle with lower half. Stiff hands. Stabs at ball. Needs to improve blocking. Low exchange and release. Limited carry. Accurate to bag. 72 mph arm strength with 2.21 pop time. Fastball was 77-81 mph with slight sink. Inconsistent release point on breaking ball, varying shape, at 60-61 mph. Changeup was firm with flat action at 72-73 mph.

Cody Arlt, C, Hutchinson, 2017
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Ran a 7.25 60. Middle/away approach. Spray hitter. Solid contact. 72 mph exit velocity off tee. Above average receiver. Low set-up and target. Good hands. Average blocker. Lower throwing slot. Upright on release. Solid direction to bag. Minimal use of lower half on throws. 67 mph arm strength with 2.22 pop time.

Conor Bachman, RHP/OF, East Ridge, 2017
6-foot-4, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.56 runner. Up tempo delivery with high balance point. Good direction to plate. Fastball shows slight life with cutting action at 78-81 mph. 12/6 breaking ball with small sharp break at 66-68 mph. Changeup is firm with flat action for strikes at 73-74 mph. Double tap trigger. Long stride into contact. Would benefit from improved balance in box. Some length to contact; shows solid pop in bat with gap to gap approach with line drive swing plane. 82 mph exit velocity. Solid actions in OF with long loose arm action. 85 mph arm strength with online accurate throws and above average carry.

Easton Bahr, SS, Jackson County Central, 2017
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.16 runner. Inverted swing plane. Shows solid pop to oppo gap. Average use of lower half in swing. 69 mph exit velocity off tee. Shows solid actions and body control in field. Quick exchange and release on body control plays. Needs to keep glove down while fielding. Hands and feet are above average. 69 mph arm strength across with above average accuracy.

Jackson Baird, SS, Providence Academy, 2017
5-foot-9, 145-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. Ran a 7.01 60. Aggressive line-drive swing plane. Strides out to swing. Pulls off at contact. Gap to gap approach and average pop in bat. 73 mph exit velocity off tee. Second baseman build. Quick feet with above average glove in field. Clean exchanges. Throws show average carry and solid accuracy to bag at 78 mph.

Tanner Berwald, 3B/RHP, St. Croix Lutheran, 2017
6-foot-2, 210-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.56 runner. Middle of field approach. Negative weight at contact. Flat swing plane through zone. 75 mph exit velocity off tee. Shows average feet with a usable glove at third base. Solid body control plays. Average accuracy and carry to bag at 75 mph. On mound, short arm action, lands open, solid extension to plate. Fastball is flat at 77-80 mph with slight downhill plane. Curveball has loose gradual break at 63-65 mph. Falls off mound on changeup; stiff wrist with flat action at 64-67 mph.

Matt Brooks, SS/RHP, Benilde St. Margaret’s, 2017
6-foot-2, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Ran a 7.37 60. Quick hands. Creates bat speed. Needs to improve lower half in swing. Solid contact with middle/away approach. 80 mph exit velocity. ¾ slot with average arm action. Accurate throws. Will sit on balls occasionally. Solid actions overall. 82 mph arm strength across. Some wrap in back; arm is fast out front. Fastball shows tilt and run at topping out at 84 mph. Average spin on breaking ball at 64-67 mph. Shows flashes of plus action on changeup with good feel in zone.

Graham Burke, 2B/RHP, Southwest Christian, 2017
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.35 runner. Short line drive swing plane. Hard contact using whole field. Consistent solid contact. 82 mph exit velocity. Plays with energy. Has range to each side. Solid actions in field. Glove and feet are above average. 81 mph arm strength with carry and above average accuracy to bag. Up tempo delivery with rhythm. Live arm. Some wrap in back. Fastball shows varying action and consistently around plate at 80-81 mph. 12/6 breaking ball with tight rotation and avg. depth at 64-66 mph. Cut action on changeup at 68-70 mph.

Caleb Carlson, 3B/RHP, Bemidji, 2017
6-foot-2, 175-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.28 runner. Pre-set hands. Quiet mechanics. Flat line drive swing plane. Mid/pull approach with solid contact. Good use of lower half in swing. 81 mph exit velocity off tee. Strong follow as a hitter. Average/ok actions at third base. Ability to make routine plays with glove and feet. Low ¾ arm slot with short release. Average accuracy to bag with tailing action on throws. 73 mph arm strength. Up tempo delivery. Good direction to plate. Average extension on release. Limited use of front side. Fastball was 75-77 mph with varying action. Curveball was 62-63 mph with loose rotation and gradual break. Changeup showed slight run at 71-72 mph.

Reid Conlee, C, Blaine, 2017
6-foot, 225-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Ran a 7.75 60. Strong build. Pull power. Pull approach. Stuck on backside. Lift in swing plane. Solid contact. 87 mph exit velocity. High set-up behind plate. OK hands. Stabs occasionally to receive. Long release. ¾ slot. Limited carry. 2.31 pop time with 72 mph arm strength.

Connor Cutshall, LHP/1B, Minnetonka, 2017
6-foot-2, 180-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.4 runner. Controlled delivery. Head jerk with moderate effort to plate. Lands slightly closed. Fastball was 71-73 mph. 1/7 breaking ball with inconsistent shape and command. Changeup had wobbly action at 59-64 mph. Above average set-up in box. Slightly narrow base effects weight transfer through contact. Gap to gap approach. Consistent solid contact with line drive swing plane creating back spin. 78 mph exit velocity off tee. Average actions at first base. Soft glove and solid range. Low arm slot. 68 mph arm strength.

Nicholas Dinkel, SS, St. Michael-Albertville, 2017
5-foot-10, 135-pound right-handed hitting middle infielder. Ran a 8.06 60. Tall set-up. Slight arm bar. Length to contact. Needs additional strength. Middle of field approach with solid contact. 69 mph exit velocity. Average actions in field. Glove was soft. Has quick feet and solid range. Average accuracy across the diamond at 74 mph.

Derek Drees, 3B/RHP, Benilde St. Margaret’s, 2017
6-foot-4, 195-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.38 runner. Leg kick into stride. Short to contact. Collapses at contact. Flashes extension through baseball. Pull approach with avg./ok pop to pull side of field. 72 mph exit velocity. Shows some quickness and athleticism for size. Plays up to down. Hands and feet are solid. Arm is loose and quick with above average accuracy and carry. 81 mph arm strength across infield. Good balance in delivery. Lands slightly open to plate. Some wrap and stab in back of arm circle. Arm is quick out front. Fastball is downhill with avg. extension to plate at 83-85 mph. 12/6 breaking ball with small break and tight rotation at 72-73 mph. Average changeup command at 73-75 mph.

Jacob Drew, SS/RHP, Alexandria, 2017
6-foot-3, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.19 runner. No stride. Front heel turn trigger. Stiff in lower half. Flashes leverage in swing. Short to contact with extension through baseball. Mid/pull approach with above average pop in bat. 85 mph exit velocity. Long lanky build. Covers ground defensively. Flashes athleticism. Throws have plus accuracy and carry. On the mound shows good rhythm, balance in delivery, a solid direction to plate. Arm is clean and loose. Fastball has late life at 84-85 mph for strikes. 11/5 breaking ball has tight rotation and depth at 70-72 mph. Flashes above average changeup with late run at 73-76 mph. Will continue to develop physically. High Follow as 2-way player into junior year.

Sean Flaherty, SS/RHP, Lakeville North, 2017
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.44 runner. Solid lower half mechanics. Stiff swing- over rotated hands on bat. Good strength. Mid/pull approach. Inverted swing plane. Reaches at contact. 79 mph exit velocity off tee. Solid/average actions in field. 3B body/feet/hands. ¾ arm slot with good accuracy to bag. 75 mph arm strength. Tuck and turn delivery. Short arm action. Able to repeat and consistently threw strikes with 3 pitches. Fastball flashed life at 79-80 mph. 11/5 breaking ball with tight rotation and depth to break. 71-73 mph changeup with hard sink and depth.

Henry George, OF/LHP, New Life Academy, 2017
5-foot-9, 145-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.19 runner. Double tap load. Stays on baseball through contact. Pull approach with solid contact to pull side of field. 76 mph exit velocity off tee. Above average OF actions with good energy and ability to field. 1-piece arm action. Elevated throws to plate. 74 mph arm strength. 1-piece arm action. Solid direction and lands closed to plate. Hand is underneath fastball on release causing flat action. Fastball was 68-71 mph; touching 74 mph. Shows solid feel for curveball with good shape and 12/6 break at 60-63 mph. Tumbling action on changeup at 62-65 mph.

Nolan Glunz, SS, Woodbury, 2017
6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Ran a 6.99 60. Open stance with active trigger to swing. Lunges to contact. Low hand launch position with line-drive swing plane. Average pop in bat with middle/pull approach. 77 mph exit velocity off tee. Solid feet and glove. Works down to up. Low slot with short arm action on throws. 73 mph arm strength. Throws have accuracy to bag.

Grant Goplen, SS, St. Croix Lutheran, 2017
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.16 runner. Crouched stance. Low hand slot with lift and uphill swing plane. All oppo contact. 74 mph exit velocity off tee. Quick twitch athlete. Average actions in field. Solid glove and feet. Raw mechanics. Short low ¾ release. Average accuracy to bag. 70 mph arm strength across.

Jacob Goraczkowski, 3B/RHP, Chaska, 2017
6-foot-1, 155-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.37 runner. Small leg kick trigger. Loose hands in swing. Fluid mechanics with solid rhythm. Gap to gap approach with above average contact. 81 mph exit velocity off tee. Athletic at 3B. Fast arm. Good balance and body control. Glove is above average. Feet are solid/avg. currently with room to improve. 84 mph arm strength across infield with above avg. carry and accuracy. Long arm action. Controlled delivery. Feel for zone with 3 pitches. Fastball shows late life on downhill plane at 82-84 mph. Slider has small break with tight rotation at 73-74 mph. Changeup is thrown consistently in bottom of zone for strikes at 75-77 mph.

Will Gudorf, LHP/1B, Edina, 2017
6-foot-2, 205-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.88 runner. Strong lower half. 1-piece arm action. Fastball shows solid arm-side sink at 76-79 mph. Breaking ball has 1/7 break with good shape and avg./ok feel at 66-67 mph. Inconsistent changeup command at 72-74 mph. Rotational lower half. Short to contact. Above average pop to pull side of field. Pull approach. Consistent solid contact. 81 mph exit velocity off tee. Good feet and hands around bag. Shows range. Conner Hammerback, 3B, Alexandria, 2017
6-foot-1, 150-pound left-handed hitting third baseman. 7.75 runner. Above average actions in box. Shows good rhythm in swing and flashes ability to hit. Negative weight at contact creating uphill finish. Loses power at contact. Uses whole field with above average pull pop. 76 mph exit velocity off tee. Shows solid feet and hands at third base. Throws are accurate and on-line to bag with above average carry. 78 mph arm strength. Solid follow with increased strength and physical maturity.

Jack Husemann, 1B/RHP, Eagan, 2017
6-foot-6, 200-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.28 runner. Tall angular body. Hitch in load. Does good job of staying on top of baseball creating leverage. Above average hands to baseball. Chandler Kurth, 3B/RHP, Hutchinson, 2017
6-foot-1, 200-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.72 runner. Strong build. Complicated load. Up and through at contact. Gap to gap approach. Average pop in bat. Top spin contact on baseball. 75 mph exit velocity. Fields up to down. Long release on throws. Sinking action to bag at 70 mph. Inconsistent balance point. Leans back on release. Fastball was 69-73 mph. Curveball was 49-52 mph with gradual break. Changeup was 61-64 mph with tumbling action to plate.

Matt Laciskey, RHP/OF, Blaine, 2017
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Consistently throws fastball in bottom of zone for strikes. Fastball has run and sink at 76-79 mph. Tends to drop elbow on curveball; loose rotation with 11/5 shape at 60-63 mph. Changeup shows avg. action at 70-72 mph; left short of plate. Stays connected on load. Above average approach and stays in middle of field. Solid contact. Slight uphill swing plane. 75 mph exit velocity. Average actions in outfield. Griffin Lanoue, OF, Rosemount, 2017
6-foot-3, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Athletic build. Ran a 7.12 60. Aggressive swings with pull approach. Shows pop to pull side of field. 85 mph exit velocity. Above average actions in outfield. Fields out front with long arm action, solid carry, online throws, and above average accuracy. Events best outfield arm at 90 mph.

George Loxtercamp, RHP/1B, Bemidji, 2017
6-foot-5, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.57 runner. Good coordination on mound. Strides hard across body in delivery. Fastball is flat at 75-78 mph. Curveball has 12/6 shape with gradual break at 62-66 mph. Slider has 11/5 shape with tighter rotation and better shape at 65-70 mph. Changeup had solid fade and thrown for strikes at 67-70 mph. Low hand set-up. Front heel turn trigger with stride. Solid balance in box. Uses whole field with loose hands in swing with line drive swing plane. 75 mph exit velocity off tee. Moves well in outfield for size. Throws show average accuracy and carry to target. 78 mph arm strength.

Caleb Marquardt, SS, Hutchinson, 2017
5-foot-9, 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.25 runner. Simple swing. No weight shift through contact. Gap to gap approach with line drive swing plane. Consistent solid contact. 77 mph exit velocity off tee. Stop and go fielder. Average feet and hands. Flashes some athleticism. Short arm action with solid accuracy and carry across infield. 76 mph arm strength across.

Nathan Martindale, C, Bloomington Jefferson, 2017
5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Pull approach. Flashes of solid contact to pull side. Sporadic top-spin and rollover contact. 81 mph exit velocity off tee. Solid set-up and hands. Receives well. Will need to improve blocking quickness. Clean exchanges. Length in release. Tall body on release. 70 mph arm strength with 2.32 pop time.

Max Meyer, SS/RHP, Woodbury, 2017
5-foot-11, 160-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Ran 7.4 60. High hands. Works down and through ball. Deep load effects timing occasionally. Lower half works in swing. Projectable hitting tools with added maturity/strength. 81 mph exit velocity. Above average feet and hands. Low slot with quick release. Solid actions in middle infield. 82 mph arm strength across diamond. Athletic on mound. Fastball shows hard sinking action. Slider is firm with tight rotation and late break. Plus arm speed on changeup with solid late action in bottom of zone. Ability to repeat and feel for 3 above avg. pitches.

Matt Muller, SS, Minnetonka, 2017
5-foot-10, 160-pound left-handed hitting middle infielder. 6.94 runner. Line drive swing plane. Leans back at contact. Limited use of lower half. Seemed off-time during B.P. Average pop in bat. Good mechanics in field. Glove and feet are solid. Above average actions. Arm works very well with short clean release and follows throws. 76 mph arm strength across with accuracy.

Chad Musser, OF, Wayzata, 2017
6-foot-2, 190-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. 7.12 runner. Short to contact. Good separation after contact. Stays on ball well. Above average pull pop in bat. 81 mph exit velocity off tee. Strong follow as hitter. ½ pie arm action in outfield with average/ok fielding actions. Throws are on-line with solid accuracy to target. 82 mph arm strength from outfield.

Ryan Och, LHP, Chanhassen, 2017
6-foot-2, 170-pound left-handed pitcher. Projectable body. Will add considerable strength to lower half. Throws from mid ¾ slot with tons of late life. Has deception on front side and is extremely tough to pick up out of his hand. Fastball was 81-83 mph with upper echelon late movement. Inconsistent release point and break on curveball at 60-61 mph. Guides his changeup at times; flashed multiple that were avg/ok with late run at 70-72 mph. Och is a High Follow entering his junior year; with coaches looking for improved breaking ball. Overall fastball is very intriguing.

Mitchell Oehme, RHP, Minnetonka, 2017
6-foot-3, 165-pound right-handed pitcher. Tall lean build. Swing out from balance point. Clean arm action. Ball jumps out of hand occasionally. Fastball has varying cut and run at 80-82 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape with solid spin and late break. Changeup was firm and tended to be up in zone. Solid follow with arm action and fastball life.

Mason Penske, RHP/SS, Marshall, 2017
5-foot-9, 171-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 6.91 runner. Strides to first base side and flies open on release. Fastball shows tilt and run at 77-79 mph. Slider has 12/6 tight rotation with solid depth and avg. feel at 68-70 mph. Changeup is straight at 68-69 mph. Middle/pull approach. Hard pull contact. Slashy line drive swing plane. Raw swing mechanics with pop in bat. 80 mph exit velocity off tee. Shows soft hands in field with average actions. Hitch in release. Throws are accurate with solid carry to bag. 78 mph across infield.

Vaughn Pouncy, OF/LHP, North St. Paul, 2017
5-foot-11, 205-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.5 runner. Simple swing. Stays on back-side at contact. Average contact. Mid/pull approach. 77 mph exit velocity off tee. Shows average actions in OF with short arm action and ¾ slot. Minimal carry to target with solid accuracy. 76 mph arm strength. Short arm action on mound. Fastball shows cut action at 71-74 mph. Curveball was 58-61 mph. Changeup is thrown with stiff wrist at 63-65 mph.

TJ Rogers, OF, Minnetonka, 2017
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 6.96 runner. Gap to gap approach with average pop in bat. Underneath at contact. Falls back at contact creating uphill swing plane. 77 mph exit velocity off tee. ½ pie arm action creating tail on throws with limited carry. Accuracy is average. Shows avg/ok actions in outfield. 77 mph arm strength from outfield.

Jack Schechtman, 1B, Minnetonka, 2017
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting infielder. Ran a 7.25 60. Low hand slot. Long stride. Aggressive swing. Stays on ball well. Active load to trigger. Flashes pop in bat with middle/pull approach. 79 mph exit velocity off tee. Average glove and feet at first base. Short release from low slot. Average accuracy on throws. 72 mph arm strength.

Spencer Smith, 1B/RHP, Blaine, 2017
6-foot-4, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Average base. Needs to use lower half more in swing. Rotation/spin bat plane. Pull approach. Average contact. 79 mph exit velocity off tee. Good target. Needs improved footwork around bag. Shows ability to field and make routine plays. Arm is accurate at 70 mph. Drop and drive mechanics. Fastball was elevated and straight at 72-73 mph. 11/5 breaking ball with gradual break at 65-68 mph. Changeup thrown with solid arm speed; left short of plate. Logan Tomasek, 3B/RHP, Marshall, 2017

Travis Tretten, 3B/RHP, Hutchinson, 2017
5-foot-8, 157-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.21 runner. Low hand slot. Cuts off swing. Limited use of lower half in swing. Uses whole field. Average pop in bat. 77 mph exit velocity off tee. Solid range in field. Short arm action. Solid accuracy and carry to bag. Average actions. 71 mph arm strength. Ramon Vega, 3B, Buffalo, 2017
5-foot-8, 180-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. Ran a 7.03 60. Strong build. Spread stance. Short to contact and creates lift. Stays inside baseball well. 6-foot-2, 200-pound left-handed pitcher. Balance and rhythm in delivery. Uncontrolled front leg. Arm is fast and ball jumps out of hand. Fastball has run and sink at 79-81 mph. Curveball has very tight rotation with late 12/6 break at 64-65 mph. Slider is a plus pitch with sweeping 2/8 break at 74-77 mph. Changeup has solid fade and keeps pitch in bottom of zone at 67-69 mph. Projectable lefty that should be followed closely over next year. Curveball and slider are separate him from most pitchers in MN 2017 class.
