Prep Baseball Report's MN Winter Open event took place on Saturday, February 27, 2016. The event was held at Pitch2Pitch in Chanhassen, MN. The event featured prospects from Minnesota and North Dakota in the 2016-2017-2018 and 2019 classes who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and coaches in attendance.

Alex Fedje-Johnson, SS, Minnehaha Academy, 2016
6-foot-1, 190-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. Player who has continued to grow and gain strength since summer. Tall and fall mechanics in box. Can really drive hands inside baseball. Shows above avg. pop in bat. Stays on and through contact. Aggressive swings. 87 mph exit velocity off tee. Shows above avg. actions in field. Reads hops well. Hands and feet play. Could be swing infielder playing numerous spots. 85 mph arm strength across infield/ 89 mph from outfield.

6-foot-2, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. High back elbow set-up in box. Length to contact. Inverted swing plane. Below avg. balance in box. Pull approach. 80 mph exit velocity off tee. Shows average carry on throws in field. Has some quickness and range to 6-hole. Fields deep and underneath. 77 mph arm strength.

Sam Dupont, 1B, Eden Prairie, 2017
6-foot, 205-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. Strong linebacker type build. Short leg kick trigger with balance. Loses barrel underneath occasionally. Ball really jumps off barrel with gap to gap approach. Power should increase with better extension through baseball at contact. Shows strength in swing. 90 mph exit velocity off tee. Usable feet and hands at first base. Average around bag. Swings enough for position. 66 mph arm strength at first base.

Andrew Erath, SS, Concordia Academy, 2016
6-foot-4, 180-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. Drops hands in stride. Stiff lower half in swing. Inconsistent solid contact. 74 mph exit velocity off tee. Tends to play infield flat footed with limited momentum on throws. Flashed ability on ball up middle. Low arm slot with sinking action on throws. 66 mph arm strength across infield.

Peter Grassl, 3B, Lakeville North, 2017
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting infielder. Open stance to start. Knee to knee trigger. Length to contact. Some lift through swing plane. Shows solid pop in bat with pull approach. Short strides- avg. range. Avg. glove in field. Plays with limited momentum on throws. Accurate to bag. 76 mph exit velocity off tee. 65 mph arm strength across diamond.

Ty Hannesson, 2B/RHP, Holy Family, 2018
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Open stance with long stride. Short finish after contact. Uses middle of field with avg. pop in bat. Raw actions in field. Funky arm action affects accuracy. Needs to improve on footwork and hands in middle infield. 67 mph exit velocity. 73 mph arm strength.

Keenan Hodgkin, RHP/SS, Providence Academy, 2018
5-foot-10, 142-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Open stance. Strides to square. Slight uphill plane and length to contact. Underneath baseball at contact. Avg. pop in bat. 71 mph exit velocity off tee. Plays through the ball well if good feet and hands for age. Clean arm action. Accuracy to bag. Follow player with physical growth and maturity. 72 mph arm strength.

5-foot-9, 150-pound right-handed hitting player. 4.29 home-to-first time. Slightly closed stance with crouch. Double tap trigger. Consistent hard contact to gaps. Flashes quick hands to baseball with line drive swing plane. 88 mph exit velocity. Aggressive routes and plays fast in outfield. Short repeatable arm action with solid carry and accuracy to target. 82 mph arm strength. Avg. actions in infield. Fields with straight legs. Glove is usable and makes routine plays. Accurate arm across. 75 mph throws across infield. Currently projects better as outfielder.

Derek Kay, 2B, Prior Lake, 2018
5-foot-11, 150-pound right-handed hitting infielder. Consistent solid line drives. Avg. pop in bat. Uses whole field. Occasional length to contact. Slight arm bar- loses bat speed. Stays down and through at contact well. 78 mph exit velocity off tee. Shows better hands and feet on the run. Works around ball in 6-hole and uses momentum on throw. Solid/ok actions in the infield. 70 mph arm strength.

Jonah Lewis, SS/RHP, Minnetonka, 2018
5-foot-9, 145-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Small front heel turn trigger. Leans back at contact. Limited extension through zone. Flashes some strength with barrel. Consistent solid contact using the middle of field. 79 mph exit velocity off tee. Light on feet with solid glove actions in field. Some quickness. Short over-the-top arm action. Accuracy to the bag- 69 mph arm strength across infield. 

Nate Loch, RHP/1B, St. Michael-Albertville, 2017
5-foot-7, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Front leg kick trigger. Strides square to pitcher. Inverted swing plane. Spray hitter with middle/away approach. 78 mph exit velocity off tee. Usable hands and feet. Undersized for position. Flashes some quickness with ability to cover ground. 69 mph arm strength. 

John McCaustlin, SS/RHP, Prior Lake, 2017
6-foot-1, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Wide stance with short stride to contact. Length in load. Solid bat speed. Pull approach with ability to go oppo. Gap to gap approach with above avg. hands to the baseball. 78 mph exit velocity. Average athlete at third base. Usable hands and feet. Projects over to first base. Makes routine plays. 71 mph arm strength across field.
