PBR Spotlight Game: Arlington Catholic vs Matignon

The Cougars of Arlington Catholic had it all going in this one, pounding out 13 hits in route to a 6-0 win against the Warriors of Matignon.

Senior second baseman Kyle Boudrias highlighted the offense with three hits, two runs and an RBI out of the number four spot in the order.

On the mound it was junior RHP Christian Rosati, who limited the Warriors to just four hits and one walk to go along with five strike outs in the complete game effort. He also had two hits and scored a pair of runs to help the cause.

Senior RHP Cam Monagle got the start for Matignon and was knocked around for nine hits in his three innings of work. He gave up five runs (two earned) with two strikeouts and no walks for the loss. He was relieved by senior RHP Matt Lynch who allowed one run over the final three innings.

The Warriors had a chance to open the scoring after a one out double by senior left fielder Tyler Hanlon. However, Rosati induced a pair of ground balls to get out of the inning.

After Monagle retired the side in order in the bottom half, Matignon picked up another double, this time to lead off the inning by junior catcher Mitch LeBlanc. He moved to third on a ground out one batter later and when Rosati uncorked a wild pitch, LeBlanc was poised to make it home. However, the ball bounced hard off the fence and Cougar senior catcher Steve LaVasseur pounced on it quickly and LeBlanc was subsequently retired in a rundown to end the inning.

The bats really came alive for the Cougars in the bottom of the 2nd.

Boudrias lined a single to center, which was immediately followed by a single to left by junior DH Ryan Smith. Monagle was able to bear down and induce a 5-4-3 double play, with Boudrias advancing to 3rd. Next batter, senior first baseman Matt Wesolowski hit what should have been an inning ending ground out to second but was misplayed and Boudrias scored. Next, junior leftfielder Lou Doherty singled, senior third baseman Jim Herbert singled (scoring Wesolowski) and senior centerfielder Paul Frisoli doubled to deep left-center, plating Doherty and giving Arlington Catholic a 3-0 advantage.

A failed sacrifice bunt that turned into a double play ended any threat Matignon had in the 3rd and Arlington Catholic was right back at it in their half.

Rosati reached on an infield single, Boudrias singled to center and then Smith singled to right, scoring Rosati and moving Boudrias to third. A fourth straight single, this time by LaVasseur, plated Boudrias and gave the Cougars a commanding 5-0 lead after 3.

The Warriors had their third double of the day with one out in the 4th, as Monagle crushed one to left field that looked for a moment like it would reach the parking lot. However, for the second straight inning the double play haunted Matignon as a hard line out to short caught Monagle off guard and he was tagged out before getting back to second to end the inning.

Walsh relieved Monagle on the hill in the 4th and after retiring the first two hitters, Rosati hit a hard single down the line in left. Boudrias then had his third hit in as many at bats, ripping a double off the fence in right, scoring Rosati and extending the lead to 6-0.

Rosati was on cruise control the rest of the day, allowing just one base runner (a walk) over the final three innings. He finished on an especially high note by striking out the side in the 7th and sealing the victory for Arlington Catholic.
