Day 2: Cardinal Classic



Nickel City Nine 10 WNY Renegades 9
AJ Hammer finished 2-for-3 including a two-out, walk-off single to cap a dramatic comeback. Hammer plated Ben Damiani as the Nine scored five in their final at bat. Trailing 9-5, Sean Miller started the inning with a double. Nick Barberio reached on an error, and Mike Flemming brought home the first run of the frame with a double to center field. Vinny Cenname cut the deficit to one with a double to right center. Brady O'Brien brought home Cenname with a sacrifice setting up Hammer's dramatics. Hammer also walked and drove in three runs in the game. Cenname walked twice and scored twice. Damiani went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. The Renegades Paul Tripi drove in a pair of runs and scored once with two doubles. Colin Reformat was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored.

Grow2Pro (17 U) 9 Bruster's (17 U)
Liam Barry allowed one unearned run on five hits as Grow2Pro put crooked numbers on the scoreboard in four separate innings. Barry struck out five and walked one for the win. Changing eye levels with a fastball at 79-81 MPH and mixing in a slider that fell off the shelf to right-handed batters, the right-hander threw 72 pitches - 49 for strikes. He started off 16 of 26 batters with strikes. Grady Smith plated Jake Ring with a sacrifice fly in the second to give the Tigers a lead they did not surrender. Drew Bailey started the stanza with a walk. Ring followed with a double to left center, and Bailey scored on an error during the following play. Charlie Merkley made it a 3-1 game with an RBI sacrifice fly in the third. Jacob Wilson and Isaac Yorkey added an RBI apiece in the fourth as the Tigers stretched the lead to 5-1. Ring finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Grady Smith collected two RBI. Bailey scored twice. Yorkey crossed the plate twice. Billy Dalton drove in two runs. Tyler Smith doubled, drove in a run and scored once. Justin Varney scored Bruster's only run in the first.

Nickel City Nine 5 Accelerate A's 0
AJ Hammer, who earlier in the day provided a walk-off single, scattered five hits for the complete game victory. Hammer struck out five, walked three and retired nine of the first 11 batters he faced. Relying heavily on a tight 2-to-7 curveball at 64-66 MPH, he threw 90 pitches - 50 for strikes. The right-hander started out 15 of 29 batters with strikes. Nickel City took advantage of six first-inning walks to grab an early 3-0 lead. Sean Miller collected two RBI. Ben Damiani scored twice. Mike Flemming walked twice and scored a run. Vinny Cenname and Brady O'Brien also crossed the plate for the Nine. Leadoff batter Derek Rogers finished 2-for-3 for Accelerate.

Watertown Blizzards 8 Team PAC 2
Joey Wargo and Hunter LaClair combined for the win. Wargo started and hurled three shutout innings. The right-hander throwing out of low 3/4 slot sat 79-80 and touched 83 MPH. He struck out three, walked one and retired six of the last seven he faced. LaClair took a shutout into the seventh before running into trouble. The right-hander set down nine of the first 11 he faced. Devon Noyes got Watertown on the scoreboard with a one-out single through the right side of the infield in the first. Caden Berie singled with two outs in the second, stole two bases and came home on a throwing error. Ryan Gallo walked to start the third and eventually scored on a fielder's choice. Mikey Williams put the game out of reach with a two-out, two-run double in the fifth for a 7-0 lead after five. Team PAC's Ben Hintz rapped a pair of doubles including a one-out two-bagger in the seventh. Nick Serce singled with one out and moved to third on Hintz's hit. Steven Minardo and Jim Marasco connected on back-to-back RBI singles. Gallo came on in relief and retired the only two batters he faced to end the game.

Ironville (17U) 9 Grow2Pro (16U) 2
AJ Gartland started and allowed two runs over five innings and delivered three hits from the plate. Colin Noeth drove in two with a double in the second as Ironville jumped to a 6-0 lead. Grow2Pro's Kevin Keneally brought home two with a two-out single in the bottom of the second.  

AdPro 5 Watertown Blizzards 3
Alex Zulia finished 3-for-3 with three RBI including a two-run home run to pace the AdPro offense. Bryan Cybulski drove in two with a single in the third. Steven Skomra picked up the win. Watertown's Joey Wargo struck out two over two scoreless innings of relief. Ryan Gallo had two hits for the Blizzards.  

AdPro 6 Southern Tier Sluggers 3
Alex Zulia had two hits including a double and plated two runs to lead AdPro. RJ Brandon added an RBI double. Tommy Berrafato notched the win. Souther Tier's Owen Dando had two hits and two RBI. Ryan Kerley had a double.  

Ottawa Canadians 10 Henrietta Brusters (17U) 0
Matt Wiggins allowed two hits over four shutout innings to pick  up the win for Ottawa. Nolan Strauss finished 3-for-4 and scored three runs.  

Academy 7 NE Twins 6 
Academy erased a six-run deficit scoring five runs in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Niagara Thunderwolves 12 Finger Lakes Falcons 2
Ian Evans paced Niagara's offense going 2-for-3 with a walk, two triples, four RBI and and two runs scored. Jackson Rotella allowed two runs on two hits over five innings for the win. Adam Liberti collected three walks and scored four runs. Garrett Srock was 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored. Chris Caccatoire collected two hits, two runs scored and an RBI.
