Initial Top 50 Player Rankings Released in 2015 Class

The 2015 class is quickly shaping up to be loaded with high-level prospects across the Prep Baseball Report’s New York coverage area, evidenced by the number of D1 verbal commitments in our Top 50. The 2015 Top 50 player rankings reflect the talent these rising seniors have and the comprehensive coverage the Prep Baseball Report has in the empire state.

The class of 2015 in New York is very deep, and there will always be room for discussion regarding who is the best of the best. Not in New York, the No. 1 player in the 2015 class is Garrett Whitley (Niskayuna HS, 2015) who exploded on the National scene this summer both in the East Coast Pro showcase and the Area Code Games which were played in Long Beach, California and he hasn't looked back. He brings extreme power and speed (6.5 runner) to the table, a deadly combination on the baseball diamond. Arguably the No. 1 Northeast prospect in the 2015 amateur MLB player draft, Whitley has all the tools to be a lead-off, contact hitter or a run producing power guy in the middle, with the speed and athleticism to play all three outfield positions. He will be a fun one to watch develop his senior year campaign.

No. 2 on the list is (George Washington HS, 2015) Wesley Rodriguez. He   showed some versatility at the Tournament of Stars, playing first base and pitcher in games, but also participating in catcher workouts. He has a thick frame with a strong lower half at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds. On the mound, he sat 89-91, dipping to about 86-89 out of the stretch. His curveball has good 11-to-5 shape and sharpness, sitting 74-77. At the plate, he has a medium leg kick and smooth swing that produces power. His arm strength translates to the field. As a catcher, he is understandably raw, with a long exchange and inverted elbow, but he was still around 2.0 seconds on his throws.

No. 3 on our Top 50 list is (Burnt Hills, HS 2015) Danny Maynard. Maynard stands 5-foot-9 and is built like a power tail back. The Notre Dame commit has power from both behind the plate and with the bat. At the plate he has a compact, powerful swing with lots of carry to both gaps. Behind the dish he has plus instincts defensively and a sub 2 pop time with a quick clean release. Very good prospect to follow this spring.
