Defiance right-handed pitcher Robert Zeigler, a Kentucky recruit, returned for his second trip to the Super 60 in Chicago.

Hoping to follow in the footsteps of Defiance alumni Chad Billingsley (Los Angelos Dodgers) and Jonathan Niese (New York Mets), Zeigler showcased his skills in front of 70 plus Major League Baseball scouts.

“This being my second year at the Super 60, I had a pretty good idea of what to expect … a lot of very good baseball players and a large number of MLB scouts,” he said.

Last year, Zeigler sat in the high 80’s, but this time around, he showed growth in his development.

“I was somewhat pleased with my performance. I gained 3 mph on my fastball from this time last year, but I realize I still have a lot of work to do,” he explained.

He also showed off the same hard 78 mph curveball that has become synonymous with the Defiance baseball program.

Now, a veteran of the Super 60, Zeigler has some simple advice for anyone that receives an invitation.

“I would say this is a ‘can't miss’ opportunity. If you have a goal of playing at the highest level of baseball, this is a great event to be seen by 70 plus professional scouts.”
