Tournament 12 at the Rogers Centre: Game Five

By Chris Kemlo
PBR Ontario Scouting Director

In the Futures team first game of the day, they seemed to be overmatched by their counterparts from the west coast. BC Orange scored early and often as they took advantage of walks and some miscommunication mishaps on the part of the young Futures squad from Ontario. BC won 10-0 in five innings due to the run rule installed at Tournament 12.

Player Notes

Hunter Spoljaric, RHP, Great Lake Canadians, 2016

Hunter Spoljaric has and will continue to see better days on the mound. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound righty, who mirrors his father’s arm action from the right side (Son of former MLB Lefty Paul Spoljaric) struggled with his command during his inning and a third on Thursday. Although Spoljaric struggled to find the zone, he did show good actions with his delivery, with his heavy fastball getting as high as 84. Spoljaric kept his demeanor during his time on the mound, and many evaluators know this is not typical Spoljaric. Look for him to bounce back strong if given another opportunity this week at T12.

Sam Turcotte, RHP, Ontario Terriers, 2016

Turcotte worked two and a third innings, which saw him strike out three, while only giving up two hits and a walk. Turcotte, listed at 6-foot-5, 190-pounds showed the confidence to throw all three of his pitches. Turcotte’s fastball ran up to 85, and he used both his curveball and changeup to righties and lefties. When Turcotte is on top of the ball and working downhill, he creates some run to his fastball and changeup.

Noteworthy

The Futures team had a rough day at the plate as they could only muster up one hit.
