Game Recap: North Penn at Central Bucks South

By Jacob Gill
Pennsylvania Assistant Director of Scouting

Central Bucks South 3, North Penn 2 (8 innings)

The Titans cemented their place as a Suburban One League Continental Division frontrunner and state title contender by completing a regular-season sweep over a Knights program that has won two of the last three PIAA class AAAA state titles. Junior right-handed pitcher Dan Klepchick (8 IP, 5 H, 3 BB, 5 K) steadied himself after a shaky start, shutting down North Penn over the final seven frames, while never facing more than four hitters in an inning.

The Knights opened the scoring in the top of the first with a hit and a walk (a previous walk was erased on a pickoff) that preceded senior first baseman Greg Kerr lofting a two-out flyball to the warning track that caromed out of the glove of the left fielder (whose back was against the fence) for a two-RBI double.

Matt StevensonThe score remained 2-0 into the bottom of the fourth when, with a runner on first base, the Titans strung together three two-out singles to knot the game at two. Both Klepchick and 6-foot-6 North Penn junior right-handed pitcher Matt Stevenson (7.1 IP, 9 H, 2 BB, 5 K; right) shut down the opposing offenses from there until the bottom of the eighth.

CB South junior designated hitter Tommy Dugan led off with a single before a double over the head of the right fielder by junior first baseman Andrew Dietz put runners on second and third with no outs. An intentional walk brought junior second baseman Tyler Watson to the plate and he promptly lifted a sac fly for the walk-off win.

Mason NadeauThe three eighth inning heroes had two hits apiece to lead the Titans, while Penn State signee Mason Nadeau (right) was the only Knight to tally multiple hits.
