Junior Spotlight - Downingtown East IF Jesse Alba

By Jacob Gill
Philadelphia Region Director of Scouting

Jesse AlbaDowningtown East infielder Jesse Alba was the lone sophomore in either line-up when we first saw him in the Cougars rivalry game against Downingtown West. In that game, he showed smooth infield actions, seemed to play with a bounce in his step, and made a nice body-control play at second base on a ball that deflected off the pitcher. At the end of the season, he was one of only two sophomores to receive first-team all-Ches-Mont National recognition.

A few months later, Alba attended the Mid-Atlantic Border Battle, where he ran a 6.99 60-yard dash and recorded an 81-mph exit velocity that is sure to improve as he adds strength to his 5-foot-9, 140-pound frame. At the plate, he starts from a square stance and takes a simple, controlled stride. His hands work and his eyes stay level throughout his swing.

Alba is being groomed in a winning culture, as Downingtown East captured the Ches-Mont National championship, while his Lionville Hillcats legion team took the Chester County League championship and a runner-up finish in the Region 3 tournament.
