Preseason Spotlight: Erie East Warriors (District 10)

Putting together a successful high school baseball program that does not have the benefit of a feeder program is difficult. Add in playing in a conference that includes McDowell and Cathedral Prep and the task becomes that much more challenging. Erie East Head Coach Pat Hart feels like he has his Warrior program headed in the right direction though. With six starters returning and three pitchers with varsity experience an improvement on last year's winless campaign looks promising.

Hart will look to junior 5-foot10, 180-pound RHP/C Zach Pellegrino and senior 5-foot-9, 150-pound RHP/OF Jacob Miller to be the leaders. Pellegrino will be counted on to be the staff ace, to catch when he is not pitching and to provide offensive fire power. Miller is a three year member of the varsity team who will be looked to for his leadership.

Hart points out that two underclassmen show signs of big things to come and should impact the program in future years. Alex Zelino is a 6-foot, 170-pound sophomore with what his coach refers to as loads of potential. Class of 2016 IF/OF Chris Adams has also shown promise.
