Q & A with University of Arkansas Little Rock commit Danny Mitchell Jr.

Coming off a solid junior season in which he helped North Little Rock advance to the 7A state tournament,OF Danny Mitchell Jr. recently announced his commitment to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. 

We had a chance to visit with Mitchell regarding his decision and several other topics:

PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose the University of Arkansas at Little Rock?

Mitchell: I chose UALR because I loved the campus on my visit and I loved the coaches. I know players that are currently playing for UALR and they say big things are happening right now and really trust and believe that with a new coaching staff UALR is headed in the right direction 

PBR: Where did they first see you compete?

Mitchell: I believe they first saw me compete at Xtra Innings.

PBR:  When did you take your first official visit University of Arkansas at Little Rock?

Mitchell: I took my Official visit September 2nd

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Mitchell: They expect me to be the dirty guy by stealing bases and chasing down balls in the outfield. They want me to keep the ball on a line or on the ground and use my speed to help the team out.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Mitchell: I was considering some in state schools and some junior colleges out of state.

PBR: Who did you play for this summer? Talk about your experience playing for them?

Mitchell: I played with the Rawlings prospects and I really enjoyed it. We became like a little family but I learned a lot from coach Clark and he tweaked some things that improved my game tremendously.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Mitchell: My parents have impacted me the most by supporting me mentally, physically, financially and sacrificing their time. The game of baseball the game of baseball is very demanding sport and it’s very important that you have a support system. There are a host of coaches that has played an important role in my baseball career I thank God for giving the physical and mental abilities. God has also been a big factor in my life blessing me in many ways.

PBR: What were your stats for your High School last spring?

Mitchell: I lead the team in average hitting .389. I was awarded Arvest Outstanding player of the week, 7a All conference, and Co-MVP this past spring season.

PBR: Who is the best pitcher you have faced from Arkansas?

Mitchell: The best pitcher I've ever faced was Preston Oberling.
