SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - Another exciting week of San Diego high school baseball took place in tournaments featuring Power 25 teams in action. We also got a look at some teams from out of town, including West Linn from Oregon. Follow along down below for the notes and videos from last week.

NOTES

'24 SS Brock Thompson (Oklahoma State) - The Liberty shortstop and Future Games alum delivered on his reputation. He lit up a pitch elevated in the zone on a pure barrel over the center fielders head and to the wall for an easy double. The load coordinates with his toe tap and has a strong release with fast hands. Strong barrel connection from the left-handed batter's box with good hands in the field.

'24 OF Grayson Keleman (Uncommitted) - Keleman grabbed two hits en route to a St. Augustine win. Small stride with a horizontal load. Showed two hard hits to the left side.

'24 SS Tommy Carney (Uncommitted) - Carney once again impressed and came in clutch for St. Augustine with the bat. He caught a barrel on an offspeed pitch, being patient and driving it the other way. He also grabbed another hit. Versatile defender with quick feet and a strong arm.

'26 INF Nate Balkenbush (Uncommitted) - Balkenbush started a string of singles for St. Augustine by roping a single over the head of the third baseman. It's a short load with a longer stride, giving him full coverage over the plate.

'24 RHP Trey Telfer (Indiana) - Telfer's stuff was on against Carlsbad. He went the distance, tossing a complete game only giving up one run while striking out 10. Telfer's strike throwing efficiency stood out with a strike percentage north of 70%. It's a smooth and repeatable motion where he drops into and drives off his back leg. Consistent landing spot with a strong and balanced follow-through on his front leg. The fastball was at 90-92 mph in his first inning and maintained its zip late into the game. The slider was a consistent strike pitch for Telfer, getting it over the plate early in the counts to keep hitters off balance. It has subtle movement and isn't a wipeout pitch but it benefits from 77-80 mph speed.

'24 INF/RHP Tyler Foster (UC Irvine) - Foster started off strong for Carlsbad before giving up a couple of runs in the eventual 5-1 defeat. He's a quick worker on the hill, getting the ball back and pitching right away. It's a comfortable motion with a long stride. His fastball was 87-88, topping at 89 mph in his first inning of work, hitting low in the zone consistently. His primary secondary seemed to be a curveball working at 73 mph with 11-5 movement.

'27 SS Matthew Kelley (Miami) - Kelley had multiple hard hit balls including a couple hit into the 6 hole taken away by Alex Harrington. He came in the clutch with a two out, two strike line drive into right field to drive in Carlsbad's only run of the game. Solid actions in the field at third base.

'24 C Michael Podstreleny (UC Irvine) - Podstreleny was behind the dish for the entirety of Telfer's complete game and has continued to be the anchor of the Cathedral Catholic staff. Soft hands and a still body steal strikes and the arm plays when it comes to controlling the running game. At the plate, Podstreleny delivered essentially the winning RBI by lining a ball hard and up the middle. Front shoulder and head stay in with a short, on time stride. Short to the ball, guiding the barrel through the zone.

'24 OF/C Eli Selga (SDSU) - Selga collected two hits for Cathedral Catholic including a single and a double. The swing is on a flatter bat path and delivers consistent line drives to all fields.
