Colorado Power 25 Rankings: Week 5

Caleb Dameron
PBR Colorado Staff

On Thursday, March 7th the Colorado spring season began play for all 5A-1A baseball programs. We continue our CHSAA Power 25 rankings with a look at how the teams have produced through the first five weeks. The Prep Baseball Colorado staff has diligently scouted players and teams throughout this spring, and will continue to work hard to bring the state top notch coverage on the baseball diamond. Colorado is flourishing with high-end baseball talent at the moment and is starting to gather more and more national recognition as well. We hope to continue all momenutum in the state while making an impact on the players and teams within.

#2 CHAPARRAL

Chaparral has stayed towards the top of the rankings for most of the season and added two more quality wins last week against Columbine and Fort Collins. This is a well rounded squad that can pitch, hit, and play defense as well as about anyone right now. We have also seen Chaparral be able to win close games, as well as posting some higher scoring outputs with 4 games already where their offense has scored double-digit runs. The schedule for Chaparral is one of the toughest remaining, but they've proven themselves to be an incredibly hard team to beat in 2024.

#6 EATON

The Eaton Reds are searching for their 4th straight 3A State Championship and are still undefeated this season. The Reds return a deep group for spring and might just have even better pitching this time around with Haythorn, Garrison, and Stone all averaging more than 2 strikeouts per inning in 2024. If the Reds can continue their impressive winning streak, they will likely continue to rise in the rankings and should make for a strong case for yet another state championship this year.

#16 FRUITA MONUMENT

Fruita has begun to surge after a shaky start to the season, and they do have one of the easiest schedules remaining in 5A. The Wildcats are now 10-4 overall and have won their last 6 games in a row, which includes a win over #2 Chaparral. This group should be able to build plenty of momentum heading into postseason while seniors Hunter Smolinski, Lucas Weaver, Kennan Oxford, and Kolton Hicks are always a threat to carry them.
