PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?
FUCHS: I chose DMACC because I’m confident that the coaches have a great plan for me to get me to the highest level I could play at. The environment at DMACC seems like it would be an awesome fit for me as well. I’m excited to work as a Bear and improve all areas of my game.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
FUCHS: I was also considering Northwestern College (IA), Truman State, Hillsdale (MI), a couple other D2s and a few D3s. But in the end I narrowed it down between Northwestern and DMACC.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
FUCHS: The coaching staff first saw me at the PBR IA Fall Review showcase. However, I first was contacted by Coach Brundage and Coach Higginbotham a couple weeks before. I had a great visit and discussion with Coach Mishler and I was really sold on the DMACC baseball program.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
FUCHS: Yes, I feel extremely relieved. The recruiting process can be very stressful especially when you have to juggle it with school and a social life as well. It is also nice to be able to solely focus on preparing for the upcoming high school season.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
FUCHS: The main thing that helped make me my final decision was the chance to really develop and play at a higher level. I’m very glad that I was educated on the JUCO route by my peers.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
FUCHS: There are so many people I am thankful for. I could not just name one person who has helped me the most. Firstly, Brian O’Meara basically taught me how to play baseball when I was the worst kid on my USSSA team back in the day. Coach Barnes has really helped to motivate me to become better and has provided me with all the tools to improve. Coach Heinen has helped me learn how to be a good leader. Coach Delaney encouraged me not to be a PO, which I will forever be thankful for. I have had the honor of going on to Coach Traynor’s weightlifting program that has helped me transform from 130 pounds to 185 in a year and a half. I’m thankful for all of the seniors last year who were great mentors and gave me amazing advice. And I’m thankful for my current teammates for pushing me to become the best player I can be. Lastly, I’m thankful for my parents providing everything I need to be successful and supporting all of my decisions.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
FUCHS: I expected it to be more straightforward, but it was more like a roller coaster. It was definitely frustrating and not easy at times.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
FUCHS: The coaching staff plans to help me refine my pitching and hitting mechanics, gain strength and mass, and become faster.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
FUCHS: Celebrating in the clubhouse at principal after the state title game last year. Coach Heinen had an unforgettable speech that none of us will ever forget! The feeling was insane.  Hoping to create more memorable moments this season!!

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
FUCHS: I am going to go with one of my teammates. Cal Watson. During  a practice last year I faced him for the first time in my life and it’s nearly impossible to pick up what the ball is going to do out of his hand. His fastball is unpredictable and his Slider is deadly. I am very thankful that I will never have to face him in a game.
