As we prepare for our 2014 high school preseason coverage, we are going to take a quick glance at teams from across the state.

OUTLOOK:

The Loogootee Lions finished up the 2013 campaign with a solid 18-8 overall record, and were 4-3 in Blue Chip Conference games.  Lions Head Coach, Luke Woolems, and the new coaching staff believe the 2014 team has a strong enough core of guys to contend for both a conference and sectional title this spring. This year's crop of seniors is talented and will be looking to fulfill long laid expectations.  Senior shortstop Casey Miller returns to the Lions for his final year, and expects to be a huge contributor both in the field and at the plate. Miller, an All-State Honorable Mention his sophomore year, hit a stellar .417 in 2013. Kentucky Wesleyan signee, Branden Wilz, is a 5-foot-10, 165 pound senior OF that will also be a key contributor offensively for the Lions this spring. Wilz hit .385 last season. Other seniors expected to make an impact include; OF/LHP Trevor Resler (.318 BA), and OF/RHP Gage Harder.  Top returning juniors for the 2014 season are; LHP Gabe Nolley, C Hayden Bell, and 3B/RHP Ben Blackwell.  Nolley finished last season 2-1 on the mound with a 1.23 ERA.
