Indianapolis – Fishers’ offense managed to put across at least one run in every inning on their way to defeating Mt. Vernon (Fortville) in game one of the Victory Field Classic. Garrett Schlotter reached on an error to start the game and Derek Ely followed with a single that scored Schlotter from first when Mt. Vernon’s left fielder couldn't field the ball cleanly. Fishers looked like they would add another run when they executed a first and third double steal, but the umpire ruled Ely did not touch home plate.

Mt. Vernon responded with two runs in the bottom of the first with RBI singles from Zach Norman and Christian Smith. That would be all that Fishers starter Colin Scher would allow though. Scher worked five innings, allowing five hits (only two after the first) and striking out four.

Fishers got the lead back in during the next two innings. Connor Christiansen drove in a run with a ground out in the second to tie the game at two. In the third with runners on first and second Fishers ran a double steal and the throw to third ended up in left field putting Fishers up 3-2. Griffin Hulecki also drove in a run in the third to give Fishers a 4-2 lead.

Fishers scored two in the fourth and the fifth. In the fourth Jacob Totman singled in the first run of the inning and later scored from first on an error by the left fielder. An error would cost Mt. Vernon another run in the fifth when Hulecki scored from second on an error by the third baseman. Ben Pritchett singled in the second run of the fifth putting Fishers up 8-2.

A RBI groundout from Ely in the sixth gave Fishers another run and a seventh inning pinch hit two run single from Nicholas Podlogar gave Fishers an 11-2 advantage.

Mt. Vernon would get a run in the bottom of the seventh with a RBI triple from Zach Norman, but that would be all as Ely would get a ground out to end the ball game 11-3.
